4 Farm Animals for 4-H Poster Contest

Sheep.Entries due to the Ouachita Office by Friday, March 15, 2024. The winner will receive $20 & the poster will be framed & displayed at the Ouachita 4-H office!

  • Use a 14”x17” piece of sketch paper
  • Crayons or colored pencils only
  • Be creative & incorporate 4 different farm animals of your choice & a 4-H clover

4-H Record Books

For grades 4-12, entries are due to the Ouachita 4-H office by June 17, 2024. Record keeping is an important part of every 4-H educational project, & it’s a critical skill that will help students for a lifetime. Many awards, educational trips, & college scholarships are given to club members on the basis of their records & project work. Records show your 4-H club work progress, such as leadership accomplishments, citizenship/community service involvement, awards, & recognition, etc.

Author's Cafe

Calling all literary friends in 7th thru 12th grade to meet up at the Author’s Café! We will be writing & illustrating a book while having coffee & treats. Come join us Monday, February 19 at the 4-H office from 2-4 pm. Do your best to dress like a writer!

Awards Day!

Mark your Calendars! End-of-the-Year Awards Day is scheduled from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m., April 12, 2024 at Kiroli Park. 4-Her’s, Leaders, Volunteers & Parents are invited to attend a fun & exciting day!!

  • Registration will be from 9-9:30 a.m.
  • Activities will begin shortly after registration
  • We should wrap up around 2 p.m.
  • 4-H will pay for admission to the park
  • 4-H will provide 4-hers & volunteers with one drink
  • Leaders… Don’t forget to plan your transportation to & from the park
  • Leaders …Don’t forget to bring sack lunches & a drink for each student (some schools set this up with their school cafeterias)

Bring a towel! We will be having lunch “picnic style”!! We are looking forward to a great time!

Camp Grant Walker 4-H Summer Camp

Summer camp sign.“Packed Full of Fun, Friends, & Memories!” It’s time to begin making your plans to attend 4-H Summer Camp! This year our camp week is July 1-4, 2024 (Camp Week 6). To attend, you must be in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade AND be enrolled in Ouachita 4-H. Some of the activities you can do at camp are swimming, canoeing/kayaking, archery, tubing, arts & crafts…a GREAT WAY to spend a week in the summer! The $50 nonrefundable deposit is due by Friday April 26. The total camp fee, $250, is due by Friday, May 31. Details will soon be available on our webpage.

February & March Are Demonstration Months

February & March Are Demonstration Months for all 4-H Clubs – Elementary, Middle, & High School! A demonstration should consist of an introduction, procedure, & summary. Don’t forget your visual aid. Most importantly, practice your demonstration! 4-H’ers may present demonstrations during their February & March club meetings. Click the following link “How to Demonstrate the 4-H Way”. Parish Contest: 1st Place winner will receive $30, 2nd Place winner $20, & 3rd Place winner $10.

Louisiana State Food Challenge

Girl chef.The LA State Food Challenge is to be held April 3, 2024 at the State Evacuation Center in Alexandria. Contestants will be given a mystery food item to use as their key ingredient & have 40 minutes to prepare a dish in front of a live audience!


Division I: 4th-6th graders; Division II: 7th-8th graders; Division III: 9th-12th graders

The Food Challenge is open to all 4-H’ers! The contest participants will be in groups of 3-4. If you are interested & don’t have a group, reach out to us & we will assist in finding partners. To register, email youth name, grade, school & parent phone number to by March 3. Space is limited. Details will be available soon on our webpage.

Photography Club

The February Photography Club meeting will be held 4:00-5:30 p.m., February 19, President’s Day at Kiroli Park in West Monroe. We will meet at the front entrance of the park. If you have any questions, please contact our office at 323-2251.

Recycled Art Contest

Contest entries are to be dropped off at the Ouachita 4-H Office from April 1-5. Our office is open 8:00 am- 4:30 pm. Please include a label with the following information: youth name, grade, school. The label may be placed anywhere on the project. First, second, & third place winners will be announced on Facebook April 8. Participants do not have to be present to win. Projects should be picked up from the 4-H office by April 16. Prizes: 1st place - $20; 2nd place - $15; 3rd place - $10. We can’t wait to see your creativity!
