4-H Record Books

Record keeping is an important part of every 4-H educational project, & it’s a critical skill that will help students for a lifetime. Many awards, educational trips, & college scholarships are given to club members on the basis of their records & project work. Records show your 4-H club work progress, such as leadership accomplishments, citizenship/community service involvement, awards, & recognition, etc.

Detailed Record Book information: The 4-H Member Record Book is posted to the LSU AgCenter website at the following link: 4-H Portfolio (lsuagcenter.com). There is also a resource document on our webpage: 4-H Record Books. For grades 4-12. Entries are due to the Ouachita 4-H office by June 17, 2024. Ag Expo

Mark your calendars to attend Ag Expo at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center, 501 Mane Street in West Monroe, January 12-13, 2024. Times are Friday, 2 pm to 8 pm, & Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm. Advance tickets are $7, on sale January 3 through January 11. Save $3/person. Admission at the door $10 for 13 y ears & up, $7 for 7-12 years, & Children under 6 free. Bead Art Contest

Got Beads.Let the good times roll by creating an art project with Mardi Gras beads! Use beads to create a colorful picture! Art must be on an 8.5”x11” board or backing. There will be 2 judging categories: 4th-6th & 7th-12th grades. Please write your name, grade, & school on the back. Entries are due to the 4-H office by Thursday, January 25.

Camp Grant Walker 4-H Summer Camp

Save the Dates! Summer Camp is for grades 4-6. The dates for Ouachita are July 1-4, 2024 (Camp Week 6). Details will be available in our February & March newsletters.

February & March are Demonstration Months

For all 4-H Clubs – Elementary, Middle, & High School!

A demonstration should consist of introduction, procedure, & summary. Don’t forget your visual aid. Most importantly, practice your demonstration! 4-H’ers may present demonstrations during their February & March club meetings. Click the following link “How to Demonstrate the 4-H Way”. Parish Contest: 1st Place winner will receive $30, 2nd Place winner $20, & 3rd Place winner $10.

Golden Clover/Emerald Achievement Awards

1st Place ribbon.The Golden Clover & Emerald Achievement Awards reflect the years of 4-H club work, club offices held, project records completed, participation in workshops, clinics, & events, awards programs, leadership participation, etc. In an effort to incentivize local programming & recognition, both awards have been transitioned to parish awards. For application form & details, please contact Tara Garlington or Bethany Corona at 323-2251. The deadline to apply is Monday, April 1, 2024.

4-H Golden Clover Award - $25 Prize for Winner! All items are optional, but a total of 250 points must be earned for award. Points are accumulated based on your total years of work in 4-H.

  • Must be 14 years of age or under by January 1 of the club year application is made
  • Must have at least two (2) years of 4-H club work, including award year
  • Must score at least 250 points on the application & scorecard
  • A club member may only win this award one time
  • Must be 15 years of age (or older) by January 1 of the year application is made
  • Must have three years of 4-H club work, including award year
  • Must have completed one year of active Junior Leadership work excluding award year
  • Must score at least 360 points on the application & scorecard
  • A club member may only win this award one time

4-H Emerald Achievement Award - $25 Prize for Winner! All items are optional, but a total of 360 points must be earned for award.Points are accumulated based on your total years of work in 4-H.

Join the Ouachita 4-H SeaPerch Team

Teams of 6th-12th grade 4-H members will practice at least once each week during February & will compete March 1 & 2. Spots are very limited. There is some flexibility with practice & competition attendance. Email questions to bcorona@agcenter.lsu.edu

Krewe of Clovers

Krewe of Clovers.Come see our Krewe of Clovers members in the Krewe de Rivière parade in downtown Monroe/West Monroe at 5pm on January 27! The Krewe raised over $6,000 for Ouachita 4-H youth! Thank you Krewe of Clovers!

Livestock Shows

The Ag Expo Jr. Livestock Show is scheduled for January 12 & 13, 2024 at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center, 501 Mane St., West Monroe, LA 71292. Deadline for advance registration is January 5, 2024. Late fees ($10 per animal) apply after this date. All animals must be entered with fees paid by Friday, January 12 at 4:30 pm. The LSU AgCenter State 4-H/FFA Livestock Show is scheduled for February 10-17, 2024 at Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, LA.

Northern Region Agriculture 4-H Photography Contest

It’s time to begin preparing for our annual Agriculture 4-H Photo Contest!Divisio ns: 4th-6th Grades & 7th-12th Grades. Categories: 1. Farm Animals 2. Horticulture/Plants/Crops 3. Any Other Agriculture. Mounted photos must be delivered to the Ouachita 4-H office by January 8, 2024. Winners will receive cash prizes. All photos will be on display at Ag Expo! Photography Club

The January Photography Club meeting will be held 5:00-6:30 p.m., January 23 in the 4-H auditorium, 704 Cypress Street, West Monroe. Questions: please contact our office at 323-2251.

Robotics Club

4th-12th graders, join our afterschool Robotics Club using the LEGO Spike Prime System! Learn coding, engineering, & compete with other teams! Held at all 3 East Ouachita Recreation Centers! Parent & youth must sign waiver upon arrival. Meeting time of 4:00-4:45 pm at LSU AgCenter, 704 Cypress Street, West Monroe on the following dates: January 25, February 29, March 21, & April 18.
