4-H Night with the Mudbugs

Friday, January 12, 2024. $20 ticket includes ice skating, dinner, & a game ticket. There will be opportunities for 4-H members to ride on the Zamboni & participate in intermission games. We have sign-up sheets at the 4-H office. Cash or check only. Deadline is Monday, December 11, 2023.

Ag Expo

Mark your calendars to attend Ag Expo at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center, 501 Mane Street in West Monroe, January 12-13, 2024. Times are Friday, 2 pm to 8 pm, & Saturday, 9 am to 4 pm. Advance tickets are $7, on sale January 3 through January 11. Save $3/person. Admission at the door $10 for 13 years & up, $7 for 7-12 years, & Children under 6 free. Beef Poster Contest

Beef hamburger.The Louisiana Beef Industry Council Beef Poster Contest encourages participants to learn more about the beef industry while promoting beef industry nutrition & products. The 2024 Beef Poster Contest Theme is “Bite Into Beef”. Participants may compete in either the poster or digital competition! For details & rules, see 2024 Louisiana Beef Industry Council Beef Poster Contest. Parish level winners will receive the following monetary prizes: 1st Place - $25; 2nd Place - $15; & 3rd Place - $10. Winning entry or entries will be sent for state competition. Ouachita Parish entries are due to the Ouachita 4-H office by Wednesday, April 10, 2024. This contest is open to students in grades 4-12!


  • Division I: 4th – 6th grades
  • Division II: 7th – 9th grades
  • Division III (Poster): 10th – 12th grades
  • Division III (Digital): 4th – 12th grades

Awards: All monetary awards are sponsored by the Louisiana Beef Industry Council.

  • First Place: State winning posters in each division will receive $200
  • Second Place: State winning posters in each division will receive $100
  • Third Place: State winning posters in each division will receive $50

Canned Meat Food Drive

Ouachita 4-H is collecting pop top canned meats (such as Vienna sausage, chicken, & tuna) for The Simple Project! Why canned meat? Because the most common donations are canned vegetables & those who are unhoused need protein to keep them strong! Please help us meet this need! Cans are due by December 8 to the 4-H office, 704 Cypress Street in West Monroe. The school club with the most cans will win hot cocoa & cookies from the Jr. Leaders!

Draw-A-Dairy Billboard Contest

Promote the dairy industry by drawing a billboard that encourages or promotes the consumption of milk & milk products from Dairy Cattle Only & their importance for health. Co-sponsors are the Louisiana Dairy Industry Promotion Board & the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service.

Who Can Enter: Any bonafide 4 H club member


  • Division I: 4th, 5th & 6th grades
  • Division II: 7th & 8th grades
  • Division III: 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th grades

Ouachita Parish entries are due to the Ouachita 4-H office by Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Fashion Camp

Fashion model silhouette.4-H State Fashion Board proudly presents Fashion & Beyond On Tour, January 17, 2024, 10 am – 3 pm at River of Life Church in Winnsboro. For 4-H’ers in 5th thru 12th grades, tour ticket price is $25 per person. Registration takes place online. To secure a spot, email to register by December 15 (limit of 50 attendees at this location so do not hesitate if you’re interested in attending). Please note that transportation from the 4-H office is available. We will be leaving at 8 am. Items to bring: 1. Sack Lunch 2. Adult Medium sized t-shirt to cut up.

Hot Chocs & Fuzzy Socks

Hot chocolate.Jr. Leader Holiday Party & Service Trip, Saturday, December 30, 9 am – 2 pm, 704 Cypress Street, West Monroe. 7th-12th grade Ouachita 4-H’ers, join us as we cook lunch for The Simple Project, play holiday games, drink hot chocolate & hang out! Bring a pair of new wrapped socks for one of our games. At 11:30 we will go to The Simple Project to serve the meal we cook!

Livestock Shows

  • The Ag Expo Jr. Livestock Show is scheduled for January 12 & 13, 2024 at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center, 501 Mane St., West Monroe, LA 71292. Deadline for advance registration is January 5, 2024.   • The LSU AgCenter State 4-H/FFA Livestock Show is scheduled for February 10-17, 2024 at Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, LA.

Ouachita 4-H Krewe of Clovers

Krewe of Clovers.Become a Ouachita 4-H King, Queen, Prince, or Princess by collecting votes (donations) from now until the deadline. Students who collect $100 will automatically be named a Prince/Princess. The student with the most in each category will be named King/Queen. Each contestant will be invited to walk across the stage at a coronation ceremony & the winners will be invited to ride in the Krewe De Riviere Parade or kids’ parade! Photography Club

Christmas ornament.The December Photography Club meeting is scheduled for 1:00-2:30 pm, Thursday, December 21. We will meet at the West Monroe Recycling Center located at 409 Lincoln Street in West Monroe, then move to West Monroe City Hall, 2305 N. 7th Street in West Monroe, to make Christmas ornaments!!

Robotics Club

4th-12th graders, join our afterschool Robotics Club using the LEGO Spike Prime System! Learn coding, engineering, & compete with other teams! Held at all 3 East Ouachita Recreation Centers! Parent & youth must sign waiver upon arrival. Meeting time of 4:00-4:45 pm at LSU AgCenter, 704 Cypress Street, West Monroe on the following dates: November 30, December 21, January 25, February 29, March 21, & April 18. Upcycled Fashion Workshop

Join us Thursday, December 21, 2023, 12-3 pm at Rolling Hills Thrift Store, 5339 Desiard Street in Monroe, to learn about upcycling items into fashion! Prepare a project for the competition at 4-H University, play some fun designing games, & learn about consumer decision making (aka Smart Shopping!). Bring $10-$20 to purchase project materials.
