Art Workshop

Art PaletteJoin the Ouachita 4-H Jr. Leaders as they teach 4-H’ers to create fun art projects! Bring any materials you have. Some supplies will be provided. There is no fee to participate! The workshop is scheduled for Monday, October 9, 2023, 1-3 pm in the Ouachita 4-H Auditorium (704 Cypress Street, West Monroe). Call to register: (318) 323-2251! Registration deadline has been extended to October 3.

Camp Catch Phrase Contest

Summer Camp Chalkboard SignWhat’s a good theme for 2024 4-H Summer Camp? Send us your most creative ideas for a slogan - in (7) words or less. Illustrations must accompany the phrase & will be part of the contest. The contest is open to all 4-H Club members. The winning slogan will be one that is brief & “catchy,” capturing the spirit of 4-H Camp Grant Walker. The artwork & slogan may be used in its entirety or used as the concept for the final artwork. Logo & slogan will be on all publicity for camp & the camp T-shirt, & the winner will receive a monetary award. Submissions must also include the following: full name & age of person submitting the slogan; parish/4-H club; complete mailing address; & telephone number. Submit your entries to the 4-H office or via email to: rmiller@agcenter.lsu.edu. Think fast! – the deadline for submitting 4-H Summer Camp & Lost Camp entries is Monday, October 23, 2023. Make sure to indicate which entries are for 4-H Summer Camp & which entries are for Lost Camp.

Ouachita 4-H

Fall Baking Workshop

Girl Wearing Chef HatOuachita 4-H’ers in 4th-6th grades are welcome to participate in the Fall Baking Workshop! The workshop is scheduled for Friday, October 13, 2023 from 1-3 pm in the Ouachita 4-H Auditorium, 704 Cypress Street, West Monroe. Cost is $10, cash or check. Please make checks payable to Ouachita 4-H. Call the 4-H office to register at (318) 323-2251. Registration deadline has been extended to October 11, 2023.

Fundraiser

Ouachita 4-H will be having a t-shirt & sweatshirt fundraiser October 23- November 3, 2023. Be on the lookout in your 4-H member email & our Ouachita 4-H Facebook page for the link to order! All proceeds will help keep workshops & membership more affordable.

Jr. Leaders Movie Night!

7th-12th graders, join us for our October meeting Monday, October 23, 5-9 pm at the 4-H office for hot dogs & a Fall movie party! Bring a friend!

Livestock

Interested in Livestock? You can show Chickens, Sheep, Rabbits, Horses, Cows, Pigs, or Goats. Follow our Facebook Page - “Ouachita 4-H” - or call us at 323-2251 for more information. There will be a Livestock Informational Meeting held at the Union 4-H Office, 210 E. Water Street, Farmerville, LA., at 6 pm, Tuesday, October 24, 2023. To register, contact Tara Garlington at 323-2251.

Want an easy way to start out with our Livestock Program? Consider showing chickens! We will have broilers available at .75 cents each. They will be delivered in January in time for our district show. The NELA District Livestock Show will be held January 31-Feburary 3, 2024 in Delhi, Louisiana. For more information & to locate order forms for broilers, check out our Facebook page.

National 4-H Week is October 1 – 7, 2023!

Ouachita 4-H Cookery Contest

Pre-registration deadline is Wednesday, November 22, 2023. All 4-Hers are welcome to compete Monday, November 27, 2023, 5:30-7:30 pm in the 4-H auditorium. Dish Categories: Rice Main Dish, Rice Any Other, Pecan, Sweet Potato, Egg, Chicken, Quick-N-Easy Ground Beef, Heart Healthy Ground Beef, & Corn. 4-H families, join us for some healthy living activities while dishes are judged! If dishes are dropped off for judging, arrive back at 7 pm for the awards presentation. 4-H’ers with winning dishes will compete against other parishes in the Northeast Region Cookery on February 6, 2024.

Photography Club

Photography Club QR CodeThe cost to join the Photography Club is $20. The deadline for 2023-2024 is November 1, 2023. To register, go to Ouachita 4-H Photography Club 2023-2024 Registration Form or scan the QR Code. Checks should be made payable to Ouachita 4-H. Please send payments to 704 Cypress Street, West Monroe, LA 71291. Please send all payments directly to our office by mailing or dropping off to our office. We also have a drop box in the front of our building. The October Photography Club meeting is scheduled for 4:30-6 pm, Monday, October 16 at Compton Farms in West Monroe. Shooting Sports

Louisiana Shooting Sports LogoIf you are 9 years or older & like shooting guns or bows, then our Shooting Sports Club is for you! Ouachita 4-H offers Archery, Rifle, Shotgun, & Pistol (pistol is reserved for returning shooter age 14 & up). The cost to become a shooting sports member is $15 per youth; the maximum amount per family is $25 (in addition to 4-H annual dues which are $7). You must enroll in 4-H & pay membership dues to join Shooting Sports. For more information about enrolling, email bcorona@agcenter.lsu.edu or come to our New Shooters Meeting on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 6 pm in the 4-H Auditorium, 704 Cypress Street, West Monroe, LA.

Enrollment for new shooters opens October 1 but can be done at the New Shooters Meeting. To sign up when enrolling in the 4-H Online enrollment system, select Shooting Sports Club after you have selected the correct school club as primary. From there you may choose your discipline(s). The deadline to enroll in Ouachita 4-H Shooting Sports will be November 1, 2023. Also, Thank You to John & Sharon Benton for your generous donation to continue the Landen Garsee Memorial Shooting Sports Scholarship.
