4-H Photography Club

The November meeting is scheduled for 4:00-5:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 15 at the Chennault Aviation & Military Museum, 704 Kansas Lane in Monroe.

  • Parents may drop off & pick up youth
  • Meeting Place – we will meet at the front entrance
  • Our Photography Club is open to all 4-H’ers! There is a one-time $10 fee to join. Interested 4-H members are welcome to visit our meetings before joining! Questions: please contact our office at 323-2251.

4-H Pledge

4-H Record Books

Record keeping is an important part of every 4-H educational project, & it’s a critical skill that will help students for a lifetime!

The 4-H Record Book - Many awards, educational trips, & college scholarships are given to club members on the basis of their records & project work. Records show your 4-H club work progress, such as leadership accomplishments, citizenship/community service involvement, awards & recognition, etc.

Timeline - Completed Portfolios/Record Sheets will be due to Ouachita Parish 4-H around early July each year. Selected Record Books will be sent to the State Records Contest around early August. Results from the State Contest are available early September.

Don’t Forget to Recycle!

Fashion Camp

“Spice It Up!…With 4-H Fashion” is the theme of 4-H Fashion Camp scheduled for January 20-22, 2023 at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA. Ouachita will be able to send two campers (10-13 Years old) & one adult leader (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc.). An adult volunteer leader is required. Due to limited space, Fashion Camp participation will be limited to 24 4-H’ers (18 adults), accepted on a first-come, first served basis with paid registration fee & all completed forms as well as online registration.

  • Costs
    • Arriving Friday night - $200
    • Arriving Saturday morning - $175
    • Volunteer Leaders - $80 (Adult leaders attending with parish campers)
    • Fashion Board Members & Leaders - $40
  • Forms & payments are due to the Ouachita 4-H Office by Monday, November 14. Contact Tara Garlington at (318) 323-2251 if interested in attending.

HYPE: Healthy Young People Empowerment Coalition

HYPE is open to youth ages 12-17 who would like to make a difference in our community. Visit our next meeting to sign up to be a part of our coalition! Our November meeting will be held from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 22 in the LSU AgCenter Auditorium.

Jr. Leaders

The Ouachita 4-H Jr. Leader Club is open to 4-H’ers in grades 7-12. Jr. Leaders provide assistance with 4-H events, camps, community service, service-learning projects, & more! We welcome those youth who are interested to visit our meetings.Our November meeting will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Ouachita 4-H Auditorium (704 Cypress Street, West Monroe).

Livestock

If you are interested in exhibiting show animals at the upcoming 2022-2023 NELA District Livestock Shows, contact our office at 323-2251. There are possession dates for these shows that you must meet in order for your animal to be eligible to show. The NELA District Show will be held February 1-4, 2023 in Delhi, LA. The State Show will be held February 11-18, 2023 in Gonzales, LA.

Mental Health Awareness

The 2022-2023 club programming focus is Mental Health Awareness.

Name the Newsletter Winner

The winner of the Ouachita 4-H Name the Newsletter Contest is Ashley McBride from Calhoun Middle School! She will receive a check for $20.00. Thanks to all who sent in entries!!

Night with the Pelicans

Save the date!! 4-H Night with the Pelicans will be on Friday, January 6, 2023, against the Brooklyn Nets. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m. Location is Smoothie King Center, 1501 Dave Dixon Dr, New Orleans, LA 70113. Deadline to purchase tickets is December 9, 2022. The ticket prices are:

  • Balcony End: $20
  • Balcony side: $25
  • Lower End: $60
  • Parking: $10 (car) & $25 (bus)

Northeast Region Ag 4-H Photography Contest

It’s time to begin preparing for our annual NELA Ag Photo Contest! Divisions: 4th-6th Grades & 7th-12th Grades. Categories: 1. Farm Animals 2. Horticulture/Plants/Crops 3. Any Other Agriculture. Mounted Photos must be delivered to the Ouachita 4-H office by January 6, 2023. Winners will receive cash prizes! Ouachita 4-H Cookery Contest

The Ouachita 4-H Cookery Contest is scheduled for Monday, January 23, 2023 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. in the 4-H auditorium. Details coming at a later date!!

Ouachita 4-H Shooting Sports T-Shirt Design Contest

Attention Shooting Sports 4-H Members! We need your help in designing our 2022-2023 Ouachita 4-H Shooting Sports Competition T-Shirt. You could have the winning design! The winner receives $25. Your entry must include your name, school, grade & age. Send your most creative ideas to tgarlington@agcenter.lsu.edu by December 14!

Recycled Art Contest

“From Trash to Treasure!” Show us your creativity! This contest is open to all 4-H’ers!

Contest Rules:Your entry must be made from used items that would otherwise be thrown away or recycled. There is no limitation on size or format; however, we do ask that it be safe & have no rough edges. It must also be sturdy. Entries are due to the Ouachita 4-H Office, 704 Cypress Street, West Monroe by December 1, 2022.

Shooting Sports

If you are 9 years or older & like shooting guns or bows, then our Shooting Sports Club is for you! Ouachita 4-H offers Archery, Rifle, Shotgun, & Pistol (the pistol discipline is full for 2022-2023). The cost to become a shooting sports member is $15 per youth; the maximum amount per family is $25 (in addition to 4-H annual dues which are $7). For more information, please visit our Facebook page, “Ouachita 4-H”. The Shooting Sports enrollment deadline for 2022-2023 is November 15, 2022.

Shooting Sports Camp

The Shooting Sports Camp will be held December 16-18, 2022 in Pollock at Grant Walker Educational Facility. The camp is open for 4-H Youth ages 9-13 years old. Participants will choose one of the following:Archery, Shotgun, .22 Rifle or Air Pistol/Air Rifle/BB Gun (Combined).Parents & coaches are welcome to attend but it is not mandatory. The cost will be $100 per youth/per parent/per coach which will cover registration, lodging, meals & t-shirt. All youth will be required to bring their own bow/firearm & arrows/ammo.Deadline to register is November 25.
