2022 4-H Fashion Camp

“4-H Lights, Camera, Fashion” is the theme of 4-H Fashion Camp scheduled for January 21-23, 2022 at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA. Ouachita will be able to send two campers (10-13 Years old) & one adult leader (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc.). An adult volunteer leader is required.

Costs:

• Arriving Friday night - $125 (Includes Friday lodging & breakfast)
• Arriving Saturday morning - $110
• Volunteer Leaders - $80 (Leaders attending with parish campers)
• Fashion Board Members & Leaders $40

Be sure to “like” us on Facebook & Instagram… both pages are named Ouachita 4-H. The 4-H Newsletter is made available on our webpage, lsuagcenter.com/Ouachita, as well as on our Facebook page. It is available within the first week of each month, September through April.

Jr. Leader/HYPE Meeting

The Jr. Leader/HYPE meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 11 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. We will meet at Charles Johnson Park, 3313 Bernstein Park Drive in Monroe, across the street from the zoo. In the event of bad weather, we will meet at the 4-H office.

LA 4-H Outdoor Photography Camp

4-H Outdoor Photography Camp for 7^th & 8^th grades will be an overnight weekday camp held December 6-7 at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA. This program will feature an introductory smartphone photography course in which participants will explore natural/outdoor photography around the grounds of Camp Grant Walker. Campers will learn about basic & intermediate photography principles, as well as tips on basic editing features using apps included or freely available on a typical smartphone. Also featuring an interactive nature walk by LSU AgCenter Forestry Agent, Mr. Keith Hawkins, this program is open to all photographers looking to learn new skills or build on existing knowledge!

• The program fee will be $60 to attend. Checks should be made out to LSU AgCenter.

• Deadline to Register: November 22, 2021.

• Youth will need to be dropped off by a parent/guardian or another approved adult, which can be indicated on the registration form. Drop-off will be from 4:30-6:30 PM on Monday, December 6, & pick-up will be at 4:30 PM Tuesday, December 7.

• Medical Information: Please note that as we will not have an on-site nurse for our fall programs, therefore we are unable to administer any/all medications, prescription or otherwise. Therefore, youth will either need to be prepared & allowed to self-administer, or a parent/guardian will be required to attend as a parent volunteer. If parents wish to serve as a parent volunteer, they will need to apply ASAP after registration opens in order to ensure that we can receive their background screen in time. We will also review all submitted health forms prior to the program in order to be aware of any existing food allergies.

• Camp Store: Our Camp Store will be open for business during this program. Youth Participants will need to bring small denominations of cash to purchase various camp-themed items. Exact change will be required for purchases, however there will many items of various price ranges in order to simplify this process. A list of available items for purchase are not yet available.

Louisiana 4-H Shooting Sports Camp

LA 4-H Shooting Sports Camp for 4-Hers ages 9-13 will be held December 10-12, 2021 at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, LA. Registration deadline is November 11, 2021.

Participants will choose one of the following: Archery, Shotgun, .22 Rifle or Air Rifle/Air Pistol/BB (Combined).Parents & coaches are welcome to attend but it is not mandatory. The cost will be $100 per youth/per parent/per coach which will cover registration, lodging, meals & t-shirt. Checks should be made out to LSU AgCenter. All youth will be required to bring their own bow/firearm & arrows/ammo.

Note: LSU AgCenter policy requires all adults attending an overnight event with youth have to complete our overnight chaperone training & screening process (instructions included in registration).

Movie Day at Tinseltown in West Monroe has been cancelled. We hope to resume our annual movie day next year.

Northeast Region Ag 4-H Photography Contest

See our Facebook page for the flyer! Winners will receive cash prizes. Divisions: 4th-6th Grades & 7th-12th Grades. Categories: 1. Farm Animals 2. Horticulture/Plants/Crops 3. Any Other Agriculture. Mounted Photos must be delivered to the Ouachita 4-H office by January 5, 2022.

Ouachita 4-H Cookery Contest

Mark your calendars!! The Ouachita 4-H Cookery Contest is scheduled for Monday, January 10, 2022 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. in the 4-H auditorium. 4-H’ers should drop off their dishes between 5:00-6:00 p.m. & arrive back at 7:00 p.m. for the awards presentation. 4-H’ers with winning dishes will compete in the Area Cookery in Rayville in February. They will compete against 4-H’ers in 12 other parishes! Please pre-register by contacting the 4-H office via phone (318-323-2251) or email (ouachita@agcenter.lsu.edu) stating contestant’s name & dish category. 4-H members aged 9 to 19 are eligible to compete. Photography Club Meeting

The Photography Club will meet Monday, November 15 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. at Cheniere Lake Park, 104 Cheniere Lake Road in West Monroe. Please email tgarlington@agcenter.lsu.edu by Thursday, November 11 if you plan to attend.

Shooting Sports Enrollment

The Shooting Sports Enrollment Deadline for 2021-2022 is November 30, 2021. If you are 9 years or older & like shooting guns or bows, then our Shooting Sports Club is for you! Ouachita 4-H offers Archery, Rifle, & Shotgun. Cost to join: $15 per child. The max amount per family is $25.(In addition to 4-H annual dues which will be $5). Youth may not attend practice or participate in any Shooting Sports event unless they are completely enrolled. If you have questions, please contact our office at 323-2251.
