2021 Area 4-H Commodity Poster Contest!

This contest will take the place of the traditional Area/Regional Cookery Contest for the 2020-2021 school year. Entries are due to the Ouachita Office by Monday, March 15. If you are in a school club, please turn posters into your club leader by Monday, March 15. Categories include: Rice, Pecan, Sweet Potato, Egg, Chicken, & Beef. Ag Expo

This year Ag Expo will be done virtually by using videos. More details will be available on our Facebook Page.

February & March are Demonstration Months!!

A demonstration should consist of introduction, procedure, & summary. Don’t forget your visual aid. Most importantly, practice your demonstration! 4-H’ers may pre-record their demonstrations & email to tgarlington@agcenter.lsu.edu by March 31. Videos should be no more than 5 minutes in length. Click the following link "How To Demonstrate The 4-H Way". Parish Contest: 1st Place winner will receive $30, 2nd Place winner $20, & 3rd Place winner $10.

Food Shelf Items Needed

We will be assisting Louisiana Delta Community College in collecting donations for those in need. These donations will be collected at the 4-H Office through Wednesday, March 17th.

Items Needed:

  • Proteins – Cans of tuna, cans of chicken, canned stew, hash, pork & beans, soups, peanut butter
  • Canned Vegetables – Beans, carrots, peas, tomatoes, corn, instant potatoes
  • Fruits – Canned fruits, fruit cups, dried fruits, jelly, raisins, juice boxes
  • Starches – Rice, pasta, macaroni & cheese, crackers, boxed meals
  • Boxes of cereal – Instant oatmeal, cereal bars, pancake mix, syrup, Pop-Tarts, muffin mix
  • “On the Go” Snacks – Tortilla chips, salsa, Pringles, cookies, microwave popcorn
  • Basic Necessities (men & women) – Soap, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, lotion, deodorant, laundry detergent, dryer sheets

They cannot accept: perishable items (i.e. fresh produce, meats, bakery & dairy items), homemade food items or homemade canned foods. Any amount will be appreciated. Thanks so much! If you have questions, please contact Tara Garlington at (318) 323-2251.

Hurricane Donations

Hurricane donations are still desperately needed! Some of the most needed items are: bottled waters, canned foods, paper plates, plastic forks/spoons, paper towels, & garbage bags. Please drop your donations to the 4-H office, 704 Cypress Street, West Monroe. This event will be ongoing for the time being. We will announce an end date at a later time. When dropping donations, please leave your name and /or school name, approximate number of people who helped with the donations, & phone number. Thanking you in advance!

Junior Leader Club!

If you are in 7th grade or above, you may join the Ouachita 4-H Jr. Leader Club. The March meeting will be held Tuesday, March 30 in the 4-H auditorium, 704 Cypress Street in West Monroe, from 4-5 p.m. For your protection, we will be following social distancing guidelines.

Louisiana Draw-A-Dairy-Billboard Poster Contest

Carton and glass of milk.Promote the dairy industry by drawing a billboard encouraging or promoting the consumption of milk and/or milk products & their importance for health. Photography Club

Camera.The March Photo Club Meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 16 at the Monroe Regional Airport, 5400 Operations Road, Monroe, in Conference Room 1 on the second floor. Members should bring their 8x10 photos. Please email tgarlington@agcenter.lsu.edu by March 12 to confirm attendance & to give a count of the number of photos you will bring to the meeting. Recycling & Environmental Stewardship for 2020-2021

Recycle logo.Our 4-H 2020-2021 Programming Focus is Recycling & Environmental Stewardship. The West Monroe Recycling Center is a free drop-off facility for the general public, despite where they may live. The Recycling Center is open on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. & is located directly behind the Police Department at 409 Lincoln Street in West Monroe. Accepted items include: Plastics No. 1 & No. 2, cardboard, paper (newspaper & copy paper), aluminum & metal cans. Please rinse all cans & plastic jugs. No glass or Styrofoam!
