(03/09/16) DERIDDER, La. – The southwest Louisiana forestry forum presented by the LSU AgCenter and the Southwest Louisiana Forestry Association will be held March 19 in the exhibition hall at the Beauregard Parish Fairgrounds.
The program will present information to help forest landowners and professional foresters with managing their forests more profitably, said AgCenter forestry agent Keith Hawkins.
Brent Rutherford, tax assessor for Beauregard Parish, will talk about how timber valuation is determined and how landowners can access aerial imagery from the assessor’s website.
Andrew Dolan from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will discuss longleaf reforestation and its funding. Corby Moore, district conservationist with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, will cover forestry programs available to landowners.
The cost is $25 per household of a husband, wife and dependent children. The registration fee also includes annual membership dues in the Southwest Louisiana Forestry Association and entitles members to attend other workshops at no charge.
More information is available from Hawkins at 337-463-7006 or by email to khawkins@agcenter.lsu.edu.
