Forestry forum to be held Feb. 29 in DeRidder

(01/23/20) Baton Rouge, La. — The LSU AgCenter and Southwest Louisiana Forestry Association will hold a forum Feb. 29 to provide information to help industry professionals and landowners profitably manage their forests.

The event will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the War Memorial Civic Center, 250 West 7th St., DeRidder.

Topics and presenters are as follows:

  • The state of Louisiana forestry, Buck Vandersteen, executive director of the Louisiana Forestry Association.
  • Update from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service, Corby Moore, district conservationist.
  • Update from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, Jason Waguespack, district forester.
  • Creating a prescribed burn association, CC Richmond, biologist with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
  • LLCs: Are they right for me?, David Sigler, Sigler, Arabie & Cannon LLC.
  • Drones in forestry, Danny Wells, consulting forester.
  • Forest insects in Louisiana, James Meeker, entomologist with the U.S. Forest Service.

Registration is $25 per household. The cost includes annual membership dues for the Southwest Louisiana Forestry Association.
