(11/01/19) BATON ROUGE, La. — The LSU AgCenter Louisiana Farm to School Program has received the Farm Credit MarketMaker Innovation Award for the second year in a row.
The award was presented during the 2019 National Direct Agricultural Marketing Summit, held Oct. 7 to 9 in Rosemont, Illinois.
The Louisiana Farm to School Program helps connect child nutrition services with local farmers who can provide fresh fruits and vegetables.
Crystal Besse is the AgCenter Farm to School director. AgCenter extension associate Alessandro Holzapfel and horticulture professor Carl Motsenbocker also work with the program.
“The Farm Credit Innovation Awards are a way to help provide incentive for individual organizations who use MarketMaker to share their ideas and projects with the other MarketMaker-affiliated programs,” said Gary Matteson, a senior vice president with the Farm Credit Council. “Louisiana State’s example of creating networking opportunities with their ‘Meet the Buyer’ program is a great way to not only introduce buyers to their consumers, but to create more awareness about what farmers and producers are doing in their communities.”
