(06/18/19) CROWLEY, La. — The LSU AgCenter H. Rouse Caffey Rice Research Station will hold the annual rice field day on June 26.
“This is an opportunity for our faculty members to tell rice producers about their work,” said Don Groth, resident coordinator at the station. “Since its beginning in 1909, the station has played a vital role in assisting rice farmers.”
The event starts at 7:15 a.m. with a field tour that will include talks on rice variety breeding, hybrid breeding, agronomic research, sustainability and controlling weeds, diseases and insect pests. The last tour will start at 9 a.m.
A poster session will be held from 7:15 until 10:15 a.m.
The program begins at 10:30 a.m. with talks by Mike Strain, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry commissioner; Betsy Ward, USA Rice chief executive officer; Bill Richardson, LSU vice president for agriculture; Rogers Leonard, LSU AgCenter associate vice president; and Richard Fontenot, Louisiana Rice Research Board chairman.
The research board will hold a public meeting after the field day at the station administrative office.
