(02/18/19) GONZALES, La. — Several Louisiana 4-H and FFA members were honored for their involvement in livestock programs on Feb. 16.

The non-exhibiting awards were presented during a ceremony on the final day of the 84th annual LSU AgCenter Livestock Show. About 1,930 youth entered contests with their cattle, swine, goats, sheep and poultry during the weeklong, statewide show at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales.

Caroline Dupree, of Bossier Parish, and Kathryn LeBlanc, of Acadia Parish, received C.W. “Dub” Kennedy Awards. Kennedy was a former Livestock Show manager.

Dupree, a high school senior, is president of her 4-H Club and has shown rabbits, lambs, goats, steers, dairy cattle and horses. LeBlanc, a freshman at LSU studying animal science, was a nine-year member of Acadia Parish 4-H and exhibited and raised sheep.

Superintendent of Education Awards for outstanding show participants under the age of 13 were given to Guy Mark Hayes and Jacob Kershaw.

Hayes, an Allen Parish 4-H’er, shows hogs and steers, including some that he has helped raise. Kershaw, of the Iowa High School FFA chapter, shows swine and is aiming to earn an American FFA Degree, the organization’s top honor.

Two Governor’s Awards recognizing youth who have excelled in livestock projects were presented at the ceremony. The first went to Lily Gisclair, a sheep and cattle exhibitor. She is president of the South Beauregard High School FFA chapter and participates in public speaking competitions.

St. Martin Parish 4-H’er Alex Meche, who shows poultry and goats, received the second award. He is active in the 4-H junior leader and shooting sports programs.
