(07/12/18) GONZALES, La. — Results have been released from the 49th annual Louisiana 4-H and FFA State Horse Show held July 7 to 11.

Coordinated by the LSU AgCenter, the event was held at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center.

Premier Exhibitor awards sponsored by the Gerry Lane Foundation are given to participants who display a true knowledge of the horse program. Each exhibitor is tested on skills and knowledge of horses through an exam, interview and résumé.

The 2018 Horse Premier Exhibitor is Dana Cowart, of East Baton Rouge Parish, who received $50, a Premier Exhibitor jacket and belt buckle.

Other finishers were second, Zoe Cazayoux, of Lafayette Parish, and third, Rachel Irvin, of Caddo Parish. Each was presented a trophy.

The Louisiana Equine Council presented $125 scholarship awards to the following all-around high point winners:

Timed events, 13 years and under: Darby Stephens, West Carroll Parish.

Timed events, 14 years and older: Riley Brumfield, Lafourche Parish.

Ranch events, 13 years and under: Isabelle Gonzalez, Lafayette Parish.

Ranch events, 14 years and older: Kacie Morvant, Calcasieu Parish.

Western events, 13 years and under: Peyton Nichole Wooley, St. Tammany Parish.

In addition to Gerry Lane Enterprises and the Louisiana Equine Council, other horse show sponsors included Sunshine Quality Solutions, the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association and the Louisiana 4-H Foundation.

Stacey Verrett, of Cameron Parish, has been named Horse Leader of the Year for 2018. She has been a leader for the Cal Cam Horse Club for the past 13 years. She strives to provide club members advanced training in natural horsemanship skills in order to improve their performance and success in specific riding pursuits, regardless of their riding discipline.

She also has been instrumental in training state quiz bowl winners.

Verrett organizes horse club calendar sales and other fundraisers to allow students to take trips to veterinary clinics, horse expos, Rustic Sky Horse Park and the American Quarter Horse Association Ranch Horse Versatility Competition at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Her efforts have raised the club more than $20,000 during the past three years.
