(06/19/18) JEANERETTE, La. — The LSU AgCenter has scheduled a soil health and cover crop workshop for July 26 in conjunction with a sugarcane field day for Iberia, St. Mary and Vermilion parishes.
Sponsored by the LSU AgCenter, the Louisiana Master Farmer Program and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the workshop is the third in a series that previously were held in northeast and central Louisiana in January.
The field day and workshop will begin with registration at 7:15 a.m. at the West St. Mary Civic Center and include an indoor program, local field tours, lunch and additional presentations. Topics will address soil testing and interpretation, soil fertility and health, cover crops for sugarcane, residue management, eight-row planting and other production issues.
There is no registration charge, and farmers, landowners and state and federal agency personnel are encouraged to attend.
Participants will receive credit for Phase 2 of the Louisiana Master Farmer Program as well as continuing education credits for certified Master Farmers. Certified crop advisers who attend will also receive continuing education credits.
