(06/27/17) ST. GABRIEL, La. — The LSU AgCenter Sugar Research Station will host its 35th annual sugarcane field day on July 19.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the station, with field tours starting at 9 a.m. An indoor program will begin at 11 a.m. followed by lunch at noon.
Topics to be covered during the field tours include sugarcane variety development, insect pest management, disease control, weed control and soybeans in a sugarcane rotation.
Presentations following the field tour will include a sugar industry update by Jim Simon, general manager of the American Sugar Cane League; a report on Phragmites scale, a new insect threat; and an update on agriculture in Louisiana by Mike Strain, commissioner of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
