Beekeepers school set for July, August in DeRidder

(06/14/17) DERIDDER, La. — The Southwest Louisiana Beekeepers Association and the LSU AgCenter will present their first-ever Beginning Beekeepers Class as part of the 4th annual Basic Beekeepers School beginning on July 10.

The class will meet on Mondays in July and August from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Sheriff’s Training Center, 412 Bolivar Bishop Drive in DeRidder.

Topics will include bee biology, equipment, bee acquisition, hive management, hive pests and diseases, hive products and preferred honey plants, said LSU AgCenter agent Keith Hawkins. A self-study option is available for beekeepers who have a year or two of experience.

The cost for the beginning class is $25.
