(03/13/17) ALEXANDRIA, La. – The LSU AgCenter held its second annual State Rabbit Show on March 4 at the State Evacuation Shelter in Alexandria.
Ninety-three Louisiana 4-H and FFA members exhibited 433 rabbits of 29 breeds.
Jordyn Gallant, of West Baton Rouge Parish, won Best in Show with a Mini Rex doe. Kade Huval, of St. Martin Parish, won first reserve with a New Zealand buck. Second reserve went to Dakota Manning, of Tensas Parish, who exhibited a Satin doe.
Huval also won Best of Opposite with a New Zealand doe.
The show included a Premier Exhibitor contest, in which exhibitors had to take a test and were judged on their knowledge of rabbits, and a showmanship competition, in which scoring was based on how well contestants handled their rabbits. There were three age divisions – junior, intermediate and senior – in each contest.
The following awards were presented:
Junior Premier Exhibitor: First, Isabelle Mathews, Rapides Parish; second, Chaleigh Burnett, Calcasieu Parish; third, Gracen Beebe, Rapides Parish; fourth, Ella Segura, Jefferson Davis Parish; and fifth, Robert Hubbard, Avoyelles Parish.
Intermediate Premier Exhibitor: First, Elizabeth Mathews, Rapides Parish; second, Julia Borne, Catahoula Parish; third, Elizabeth Borne, Catahoula Parish; fourth, Brittany Brouillette, Avoyelles Parish; and fifth, Konnor Roberts, Rapides Parish.
Senior Premier Exhibitor: First, Destiny Bearden, Union Parish; second, Dakota Manning, Tensas Parish; third, Elise LeBlanc, Cameron Parish; fourth, Courtney LeBlanc, Jefferson Davis Parish; and fifth, Caitlin McLain, DeSoto Parish.
Junior Showmanship: First, Isabelle Mathews, Rapides Parish; second, Garrett Lirette, Tangipahoa Parish; third, Chaleigh Burnett, Calcasieu Parish; fourth, Gracen Beebe, Rapides Parish; and fifth, Ella Segura, Jefferson Davis Parish.
Intermediate Showmanship: First, Susannah Parker, Beauregard Parish; second, Elizabeth Mathews, Rapides Parish; third, Laila Chenevert, Avoyelles Parish; fourth, Julia Borne, Catahoula Parish; and fifth, Alexis Cavalier, Livingston Parish.
Senior Showmanship: First, Dakota Manning, Tensas Parish; second, Destiny Bearden, Union Parish; third, Courtney LeBlanc, Jefferson Davis Parish; fourth, Caitlin McLain, DeSoto Parish; and fifth, Elise LeBlanc, Cameron Parish.
