(01/31/17) BATON ROUGE, La. – A leading contemporary portrait painter will present a seminar on March 11 as a prelude to the Brush with Burden art exhibition at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden.
Marc Chatov will present a two-hour seminar “100 Years of Painting in My Family Lineage” at 9 a.m. based on his book “Chatov” in the Ione Burden Conference Center.
The opening reception will follow from 4-6 p.m. Awards for first, second and third place; honorable mentions; and merit for the best artwork in various categories will be presented at a ceremony at 5:30 p.m.
The seventh annual exhibition will continue on March 12-19 in the Steele Burden Memorial Orangerie and the Ione Burden Conference Center from 1-4 p.m. Sundays and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. other days.
Chatov has been featured in several leading art publications and has won numerous awards. He is a member of prestigious art organizations, including the Salmagundi Club of New York, Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society and the Portrait Society of America.
A well-known and popular instructor, Chatov developed his teaching skills as an assistant to his father, Roman Chatov, and uncle, Constantin Chatov in the Chatov Studio and gradually took over their classes in 1984. Today it stands as the longest-running art studio in Atlanta. He regularly conducts classes, workshops and lectures.
Brush with Burden celebrates Louisiana’s talented artists and their depictions of the state’s cultural and natural resources, said Jeff Kuehny, director of the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden.
“Brush with Burden is a juried multi-media exhibition that features all types of art inspired by Louisiana's natural beauty under the theme ‘Southern Sights,’” Kuehny said. “It will include paintings, 3-D work and photographs.”
