LSU AgCenter agents earn national awards

(10/18/16) BIG SKY, Mont. – Several LSU AgCenter professionals were honored at the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences annual meeting held Sept. 12-15 in Big Sky, Montana.

The Distinguished Service Award was presented to Mandy Armentor, of Vermilion Parish, past president of the Louisiana association.

AgCenter area nutrition agent Layne Langley in West Feliciana and Livingston parishes was awarded first place Communicator Award for Photography.

The national first place Communicator Award Educational Publication was presented to a northeast Louisiana team led by Cathy Agan, Ouachita Parish area nutrition agent. The team developed a brochure, “Take Time With Your Kids,” to encourage healthful physical activity and nutrition for parents of young children.

Team members attending the conference included AgCenter regional coordinator Terri Crawford; nutrition agents Brittney Seay, of Madison Parish, and Alethia Lawrence, of Concordia Parish; AgCenter 4-H agents Ashley Powell, of Catahoula Parish, and Betsy Crigler, of Tensas Parish; and Karol Osborne in AgCenter Communications. Not present were Elma Sue McCallum, AgCenter Communications; Monica Stewart, West Carroll Parish; and Sandra May and Diane Sasser, both in the AgCenter School of Nutrition and Food Sciences.

Regional coordinator Robin Landry, president elect of the Louisiana association, also attended the meeting.

Members of the Southern University Ag Center in attendance were Louisiana association president Carolyn Robinson, of East Carroll Parish, extension specialist Kasundra Cyrus and professor Fatemeh Malekian.
