79th annual Block and Bridle rodeo set for Oct. 7, 8

(10/03/16) BATON ROUGE, La. – The 79th annual Block and Bridle rodeo will be held Oct. 7 and 8 at the Parker Coliseum on the LSU campus.

The rodeo begins at 7 p.m. for both the student rodeo on Friday and the open rodeo on Saturday. Entries close at 6:45 p.m.

Admission is $8 for the general public and $5 for LSU students who present their ID card. Proceeds will benefit Cancer Services of Baton Rouge.

Among the highlights of the rodeo are bull riding, barrel racing, team roping, chute dogging and steer wrestling. The student rodeo also features fun, nontraditional events such as the goat chase and goat dress.

Students in the LSU College of Agriculture Block and Bridle Club organize the rodeo, which has been held since the late 1920s.
