4-H’ers shine at 4-H University

BATON ROUGE, La. – More than 1,600 4-H’ers from throughout Louisiana converged on the LSU campus to participate in the annual LSU AgCenter 4-H University June 21-24.

The 4-H’ers took part in 40 competitive contests and 10 educational Clover College tracks. They also elected new statewide officers for the 2015-16 school year.

“4-H club members have spent a lot of preparing for the contests,” said Janet Fox, head of the LSU AgCenter 4-H and Youth Development department. “Winning at 4-H U is quite an accomplishment.”

This year 225 youth participated in Clover College, a series of educational sessions for 4-H’ers who choose not to participate in competitive contests.

More than 100 AgCenter agents and staff and 152 volunteers participated in the four-day event, Fox said.

Many contest winners earned trips to national competitions while others earned educational trips and a few won cash or merchandise prizes.
