(04/08/16) DeRIDDER, La. – Forest landowners can learn more about prescribed burning techniques at a workshop May 5-7 at Hodges Gardens State Park in Florien.
The LSU AgCenter, Southwest Louisiana Forestry Association, Louisiana State Parks and Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry are sponsoring the event.
Presentations will cover fuels, burning techniques, proper tools, optimal weather conditions, smoke management, liability management, planning and fire behavior.
The workshop will run 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on May 5 and 6, and 8 a.m. to noon on May 7.
The cost is $130. Class size is limited to the first 25 applicants. Make checks payable to the Southwest Louisiana Forestry Association and mail them to LSU AgCenter, P.O. Box 609, DeRidder, LA, 70634.
Cabins are available at the park, which is located at 1000 Hodges Loop in Florien in Sabine Parish. Attendees can make reservations by calling 877-226-7652.
