4-H Horse Shows

The 4-H Horse Shows will be rapidly approaching, and now is the time to begin preparing for the Parish, District and State Horse Shows. Exhibitors must have possession of their horses prior to April 1, 2024. All registered horses must be officially registered in the name of the 4-H club member or an immediate family member on or before April 1, 2024. Interested 4-H’ers should contact Megan Plattsmier at 337-948-0561 for more information.

4-H Pennies Due

4-H Clubs that wish to participate in a penny drive for St. Landry 4-H Foundation can begin collecting pennies and/or other coins. Clubs can turn in what’s been collected by the due date of Monday, April 1, 2024. Please have them rolled in coin wrappers or submit a check for the amount collected made payable to St. Landry 4-H Foundation. Trophies will be presented to the club(s) raising the most money. Each club participating will receive a certificate.

4-H Summer Camp

Do you want to swim, canoe, shoot archery, dance and hang out with friends this summer? Then you need to attend 4-H Summer Camp! You must be in grades 4th-6th. St Landry Parish will attend camp June 3 - 6, 2024. More information to come in February.

4-H University

4-H University will be held June 18-21, 2024 at LSU Baton Rouge. Participants (whether in contest or clover college) must be in 8th-12th grades for the 2023 - 2024 year. 4-H University applications are due to the Extension Office by April 1, 2024. Approximate cost will be $200.00 to attend. The first meeting for 2024 State 4-H University participants will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at the Extension Office.

Four-Wheeler Raffle

There will be a benefit raffle for a four-wheeler donated by St. Landry Parish Farm Bureau Federation. Tickets will be printed at no cost to clubs. Your 4-H Club earns 100% for each raffle ticket sold. Contact Megan Plattsmier or Lisa Benoit at 948-0561 to get tickets for your club.

The four-wheeler drawing will be held at the St. Landry Farm Bureau Federation Board Meeting on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. All raffle tickets and monies must be turned in to the 4-H Office by Monday, March 25, 2024. Make checks payable to St. Landry Farm Bureau.

Please only request the number of tickets your club can sell, as it is costly to print more tickets when someone else needs them. Missing tickets will not be accepted as an excuse for not returning unsold tickets. Clubs will be responsible for turning in the total amount of money for the number of tickets taken and/or balance of sold tickets. Thanks for your cooperation.

Junior Leader Meeting

The January meeting will be Wednesday, January 31, 2024 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office.

Record Books

Four-H Record Books are due to the Extension Office, Friday, March 8, 2024.

4th, 5th, & 6th Grades: 4-H members are to turn in their project books. If you have more than one project, put your books in a binder that will keep them together. Put your name, grade, and school on the outside cover of your project book. Be sure to complete as many pages as you can. The story page is most important and located in the back of your book.

7th-12th: Submit 4-H Portfolio plus project books in a binder. Turn in your best effort.

Senior 4-H Scholarships

Scott Truck and Tractor Company is sponsoring one (1) $500.00 scholarship to one deserving senior 4-H member in St. Landry Parish. The recipient does not have to live on a farm. Applications and letter of recommendation from a school advisor must be submitted to the St. Landry Parish Extension Office by February 19, 2024, by those interested. An application can be obtained from a 4-H Agent.

St. Landry Parish 4-H Junior Livestock Show

The St. Landry Parish 4-H Junior Livestock Show will be held Friday, January 19 – Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the St. Landry Parish Agricultural Arena on the Yambilee Fairgrounds in Opelousas. The show will begin Friday evening with the Premier Exhibitor Contest. Saturday will feature sheep, goat, swine, beef, dairy poultry, and rabbit show. Exhibitors must have pre-registered to show.

Teen Chef Camp

A Mardi Gras themed 4-H Teen Chef Camp will be held at the 4-H Office for 7th-12th grade 4-H members on Saturday, February 3, 2024, from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. The cost to participate is $40.00.

Registered participants will have the opportunity to make the following dishes: Quiche, Gumbo, Focaccia Bread, Mini Mardi Gras Cheesecake, and their own seasoning blend.

7th-12th graders that are interested in participating will need to register by completing the online form below. Space is limited to the first 16 that register. Deadline to register is Friday, January 26, 2024.

Teen Chef Camp Registration

Victory 4-H Challenge Camp

Four-H Challenge Camp will be held at Louisiana Lions Camp in Anacoco, Louisiana for 7th & 8th grade 4-H members February 22-23, 2024. The cost to participate is $70.00.

Challenge Camp consists of hands-on activities to encourage youth to create team spirit, build self-reliance skills, improve leadership skills, communication skills and problem-solving skills as well as enhance their self-esteem. 4-H’ers will also have the opportunity to develop new friendships.

7th & 8th graders that are interested in participating in Challenge Camp, need to get a Challenge Camp registration packet from a 4-H Agent. Deadline to register for Challenge Camp is Monday, January 29, 2024. A limited number of spots are available, they will be filled as registration is received.
