4-H Club Meetings in December!
The 4-H Agents WILL NOT be attending your December Club Meeting. Conduct your own meeting. We will see you in the NEW YEAR!
4-H Emerald Achievement Award
This award recognizes 4-H club members who have shown outstanding leadership ability in their club & parish. The award is based on a scorecard which measures project growth & leadership. Applicants must be at least 15 years of age by January 1, 2026. Applications must be submitted by December 8, 2025 to the Extension Office.

4-H Honor Cord
This award recognizes 4-H club members that are graduating seniors, and it is based on the following criteria:
- Must be a graduating senior.
- Must have been in 4-H for 3 of your high school years.
- Must have participated in at least 1 state sponsored 4-H program within the last 3 years.
Complete an online form for this award. Contact a 4-H Agent for the link to the online form. Applications must be submitted by December 8, 2025.
Elementary Workshop Day
On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the Extension Office (Next to National Guard Armory/Airport Road), 4th-6th grade 4-H members will have the opportunity to participate in two “hands-on” workshops: STEM Junk Bots, Food & Fitness, and Art in the Garden. This workshop is limited to the first 50 4-H’ers that pre-register.
Registration/Check In - 9:00-9:15 A.M. Workshops End – 11:30 A.M.
To participate, 4-H’ers must pre-register. Deadline to register is Monday, November 3, 2025. The cost is $15.00. Check or money order need to be made payable to St. Landry Parish 4-H.
Food Festival
This event will be held Saturday, December 13, 2025, at St. Ignatius Elementary in Grand Coteau. Registration: 9:00-9:30 A.M. Judging of Exhibits: 9:30-11:00 A.M. Consumer Foods Judging & Educational Program: 9:30-11:00 A.M.
Food Exhibit Rules: Participants must compete as individuals (one 4-H’er per food dish). Only ½ the dish must be exhibited with recipe attached. Dish must be exhibited/displayed in a disposable container (after judging, dishes will not be returned). All dishes must be brought on ice in an ice chest to the contest for food safety purposes. Include name, school, and grade on back of recipe. Food dishes should be cooked and prepared at home. You may enter one dish in each category.
Food Exhibit Categories – 1 dish per category
Beef Division: Any Beef Dish - Make a dish containing at least 1 pound of beef meat. Egg Division: Dessert & Other – Make a dish containing at least 4 eggs. This can be 4 whites, 4 yolks or 4 whole eggs. No raw eggs will be allowed in the final product. Pecan Division: Dessert & Other – Make a dish containing at least 1 cup of pecans.Rice Division: Any Rice Dish - Make a dish containing at least 1 cup of cooked rice. Sweet Potato Division: Dessert & Other - Make a dish containing at least 1 cup of sweet potatoes.
Golden Clover Award
This is awarded to junior 4-H members who’ve been in 4-H for two years (including this year) and are between the ages of 9 & 14. A point sheet must be submitted showing 4-H work through the years. Applications must be submitted by December 8, 2025.

Holiday Sweets Workshop
This workshop will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, from 4:30-6:30 P.M. at the Extension Office. 4-H’ers will learn how to follow a recipe, measure ingredients, and learn safe food handling. Holiday sweet making is an art and fun to master, particularly for gatherings and gift giving. 4-H’ers will get hands-on experience with simple recipes using the microwave.
To participate, 4-H’ers must pre-register by logging into your 4-H Online account. Registration will be through 4-H Online under events - 2025 St. Landry Parish 4-H Holiday Sweets Workshop.
Registration deadline is Monday, November 24, 2025. The cost is $15.00 and can be paid online if you choose. If you don't pay online, check or money order need to be made payable to St. Landry Parish 4-H. The workshop is limited to the first (30) 4-H’ers that register.
Jim Bowie Livestock Show
The Jim Bowie Livestock Show, conducted by St. Landry Junior Livestock Association, will be November 21-22, 2025, at the Ag Arena in Opelousas. There will be Breeding/Market Lamb and Breeding/Market Goat Show on Friday night and Dairy/Beef Breeding Show on Saturday. Showmanship will also be included. Contact the 4-H Office for more information.
Junior Leader Meeting
The November meeting will be Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 4:30-6:00 p.m. at the Extension Office. We will have a business meeting and work on our community service project.
Records Contest
The Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays give you spare time to get together with some of your friends to do some of the activities in your 4-H project books. Be sure to have someone take pictures of you as your work on activities and projects. Keep the pictures with your project book. Keep a notebook of all the 4-H events you participated in. Books are to be turned in for the parish 4-H Records Contest in March.
