It’s time to sign up for the annual Youth Vegetable Garden Contest! Youth gardens must be located in Assumption Parish and should contain at least four different types of vegetables. Gardens can be entered in the youth small or youth large category. Youth small gardens include container gardens, raised beds and one row gardens. Youth large gardens include gardens of two or more rows.
Judging is based on the following criteria: site selection, record keeping, apparent productivity, and weed, disease and insect pressure. Gardens will be judged in person in early May. Participants do not need to be home at the time of judging.
To enter submit your name, address, phone number and email address to Horticulture Agent Mariah Simoneaux or call the Assumption Parish LSU AgCenter Office.
Awards for the Youth Vegetable Garden Contest are sponsored by the Lower Delta Soil and Water Conservation District.
