The annual Rapides Parish 4-H Fall Food Festival will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the Alexandria Mall. Registration will take place at 5:00 p.m. and judging starts at 5:30 p.m. The purpose for this contest is for 4-H members to engage in the enjoyment of friendly competition and meet other 4-Hers throughout the parish while learning various educational aspects in reference to determining the nutritional value of food, cooking principles, and the usage and value of Louisiana commodity products.
4-H'ers will have several categories to chose from. The categories are as follows:
Seafood: Louisiana Shrimp, Louisiana Crawfish, and Louisiana other seafood
Beef: Any beef dish (must contain at least 1 pound of beef)
Egg: Appetizer/Salad, Main Dish, Dessert
Poultry: Any poultry dish (must contain at least one pound of boneless or 2 pounds bone-in poultry)
Rice: Any rice dish (must contain at least one cup of rice)
Sweet Potatoes: Dessert, Other
Pecan: Candy, Dessert, Other
Bento: Health Lunch Box
Wild Game: Vension, Other wild game

Please note that this will be the only food competition for Rapides Parish this school year. Champions for this cooking competition will have the option to compete in the District Cookery Contest to be held March 28, 2016 at the State Evacuation Shelter.
