It’s time for an update about several opportunities and resources available to you.
From the organizers: “…Louisiana SARE and the Louisiana Farm to School Program are sponsoring a Commercial Cut Flower training featuring retired Area Horticulture Agent and commercial flower grower, Denyse Cummins, as the speaker. This event is from 2pm-4pm, and will take place in Julian C Miller Hall on LSU campus. Drinks will be provided. … Here is the registration link, https://lsuagcenter.regfox.com/cut-flower-training. Note that it is $ 10 to register.”
Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) representative Douglas McKean spoke at the Watermelon Education meeting about programs that provide avenues for local growers to sell to Louisiana food banks (LFPA) or schools (LFS). If you’re interested in selling produce or other agricultural products through the LFPA program, you can visit the Nourish Louisiana website and fill out the interest form. You can also contact Mr. McKean for more information about these programs.
Those who attended the Agritourism Education Meeting may remember Dr. Maria Bampasidou of LSU’s Department of Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness. She has asked that I share this, from one of her colleagues at Penn State University, with you:
“The 2024 National Agritourism Survey is now collecting responses. All agricultural operations that welcome visitors—whether for on-farm direct sales, educational programs, entertainment, farm stays, recreation, special events, and more—are invited to complete the survey.
“By participating in this survey, you'll help us pinpoint the types of support farmers like you require—whether it's getting business assistance, developing networks, applying for grants, or navigating zoning and liability issues.
“If you have questions about this survey, please contact Claudia Schmidt, Penn State Extension specialist (cschmidt@psu.edu): National Agritourism Support System Survey | Qualtrics Survey |
Thank you for your time spent taking this survey.”
The Spring 2024 edition of Small Fruit News from the Southern Region Small Fruit Consortium is available. (If you’d like, you can sign up to receive notifications about new issues directly from the Southern Region Small Fruit Consortium.)
Some of you have gotten a hard copy of the SE US Vegetable Crop Handbook in the past. We do not have hard copies this year, but the book is available to be downloaded through this page.
Let me know if you have questions.
