If you are planning to participate in the Record Book Portfolio Contest for the 2023-2024 club year, please come by our office or e-mail Mrs. Kim or Mrs. Madison by clicking on their name to make your project book selection. All 4-H members in grade 4-12 may receive ONE project book with their membership. Club members may select any project book they desire with the exception of 4th and 5th grade members. All 4th grade members will receive Discovering the World of 4-H and all 5th grade members will receive Exploring the World of 4-H project books. 4-H members can only request 1 project book but can enroll in more than 1 project area. Come by the office, 230 Court Street, to pick up your project book for the contest! Record Book winners will win a spot on the Junior Winner Trip!

The Junior Leader Club is a fun, exciting way to get involved in the 4-H Program, develop leadership skills, and participate in service learning programs and travel. This club is an additional club outside of the regular school club. The Junior Leadership Club meets each month. Membership is open to all paid Evangeline 4-H Members in the 7th-12th grade. So, please make sure to join your school club first. The first meeting will be held on September 5, 2023. You can click here to fill out your Junior Leadership Club application. Once you have filled out your application you will be required to pay your $10.00 member fees. You can either mail in your payment of $10.00 but please specify who the money is for or you can call and pay over the phone, a 4% charge will be added or bring in your payment with you to the Junior Leader Meeting.

4-H Clubs across America will be celebrating National 4-HWeek, October 2-6, 2023. Join the festivities by planning special events within your club/school. Ideas include: cookies for the teachers, a 4-H display in the hall or a bulletin board, wearing green/white tee shirts, sponsoring a poster contest, or passing out 4-Leaf clovers. We know you can think of many more ideas. The National 4-H Theme and Evangeline Parish theme is “4-H is Feeling.”
The Cotton Pickin’ Pet Show will be held in conjunction with the Cotton Festival on Monday, October 9, 2023 at the Civic Center in Ville Platte. This event will begin at 4:00 P.M. All 4-H members must be pre-registered by September 29, 2023 to participate in this event. No late entries will be accepted and absolutely no entries the day of show.
Each member may bring two pets, and you can enter your pets in as many classes as you would like in their division. Entry fee is $1.00 per class. For the pet you will not be allowed to show any livestock animals such as horse, calf, goat, sheep, pig, etc. Also, absolutely no snakes of any kind and no Pitbulls including Pitbull mix will be allowed at the pet show. During the pet show all pets must be kept on a leash, in a cage, or otherwise under control. No pens, cages, or leashes will be provided, you must bring your own. Parents must accompany animals at all times.
Entry forms will be handed out during the September club meeting. If for some reason you did not get one please call the office at 337-363-5646 and we will be happy to help you!
The Evangeline Parish 4-H Fall Cookery Contest will be held for all 4-H Members on Monday, October 9, 2023 at the Ville Platte Civic Center. Dishes will be accepted 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. Judging will begin at 4:00 sharp. All dishes must be pre-registered for this event. Deadline to register for this event is Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 10:00 p.m. You may register a dish in each category you choose! This year the cookery will only contain categories that move onto the Regional Cookery in April of 2024! Those categories include Beef, Rice, Pecan, Sweet Potato, and Egg.
GENERAL RULES: Dish must be exhibited cold to the touch. Bring only HALF of the dish. The dish MUST be exhibited in a throw away container. You will be asked to remove items not directly related to the dish, such as placemats, flower arrangements, figurines, trays, footed chafing dishes, soup tureens, etc. Non-edible items are not to be used as garnish. No serving utensils will be allowed.
You must bring a copy of the recipe along with the dish. Dish will not be accepted without recipe. A number will be assigned to each dish when it is entered, so please do not write your name on your recipe or dish. Be sure that your recipe is written correctly. Recipe should have 4 main parts: Name of recipe; list of ingredients used; directions for preparing; number of servings in the dish. All dishes must be prepared at home and brought ready for the judges to taste. No cooking will be done at the parish contest.
First, second, and third will be awarded in each category. However, only first and second place winners in each category will be given the opportunity to move on to the Regional Cookery in Alexandria. If for some reason the first or second place winner can not attend the regional contest then and only then the Third place winner will be allowed to move on. Only the 1st place winner in each category will qualify for the Junior Winners Trip.

Sweet Potato Cookery Registration
t a trick, it’s all a treat! On Monday, October 9, 2023 in conjunction with the Cotton Festival there will be a pumpkin decorating contest for our 4-H Club Members! You must pre-register for this contest. Deadline to register for the Pumpkin Decorating Contest is Thursday, October 5, 2023. If you do not have access to a cell phone or computer call the office so we can register you! No registrations will be accepted the day of contest.
4th - 6th grades will be divided in to two categories. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will be awarded in each category. The first category is Most Creative. These pumpkins will be judged on idea, effort, originality, etc. The second category is Most Traditional and these will be judged on traditional Halloween theme. They can be spooky, witches pots, mummy, haunted house, bat, etc. Search the internet, they possibilities are endless!
7th - 8th grade pumpkins will all be placed in one category and you may decorate the pumpkin using the criteria above. All pumpkins in this age level will be judged in one category and only a first place winner will be selected.
9th - 12th grade pumpkins will all be placed in one category and you may decorate the pumpkin using the criteria above. All pumpkins in this age level will be judged in one category and only a first place winner will be selected.
Bring a pumpkin fully decorated to the Civic Center in Ville Platte from 3:00-4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2024 to be judged. Judging will begin promptly at 4:00 P.M. Pumpkins may be big or small in size, foam pumpkin or real pumpkin, and can be decorated in any age appropriate theme. PLEASE NO GORE, it will be disqualified. Look online for some great ideas! You must take your pumpkin with you once contest is complete. If your pumpkin is left unattended after contest it will be thrown. Deadline to register for this contest is Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 10:00 p.m.
Help Louisiana 4-H celebrate many years of camping at Camp Grant Walker! Send us your most creative idea for a theme in 5 words or less. Illustrations of your theme must accompany the phrase and will be a part of the contest. Contest is open to all Louisiana 4-H youth. The winning theme will be selected based on its ability to be “catchy” and captures the spirit of camping at Camp Grant Walker for 100 years. The theme will be used on all publicity for camp, including the 2024 camp t-shirt. The winner will be awarded a monetary award! Think fast—the deadline is October 23, 2023. Submissions must also include the full name and age of person submitting the slogan, your parish and 4-H club, complete mailing address, and telephone number. Individuals may submit multiple entries.

The State 4-H Service Project for 2023-2024 is “Hunger and Poverty”. Our Parish will also have a service learning project which is working to help the many in our community. Each school club in Evangeline parish is asked to select a program or project to conduct that addresses relevant annual needs in their local setting. A brief report on the program or project conducted is due to the parish office by April 30th. If your school would like to be a part of a donation or Holiday basket, please let Mrs. Kim know.
If you enjoy hunting, marksmanship shooting, or just being in the great outdoors, we have the thing for you! The 4-H Shooting Sports program is a great way to become a better hunter, improve skills, increase ability to use firearms safely, and HAVE FUN! You may join the outdoor skills program by completing the registration form. The fee will be $20 for the first child and $10 for each additional child per family. This is a one-time fee to participate in Evangeline Parish Shooting Sport’s Program for the 2023-2024 year.
A parent, grand-parent, guardian, or adult must be present to supervise 4-H Club Member at every event. The activities include:
Shotgun discipline for skeet shooting (16, 20, & 12 gauge)
Archery discipline (recurve or compound bow)
Rifle discipline (BB gun target shooting)
The first program is scheduled for Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Chauncey Pitre Multi-Purpose Building, beginning at 9:00 A.M. If you are a first year member of the Shooting Sports program you must be at the barn to attend a mandatory safety meeting at 8:00 before the event starts. If you do not attend this meeting you will not be allowed to shoot.
The second program is scheduled for Saturday, January 6, 2023 at the Chauncey Pitre Multi-Purpose Building, 9:00 A.M.

This will be a qualifying match for regional competition. In order to participate in regional and state shooting sports you must have hunters safety, no exceptions.
Youth involved in this activity must use personal equipment. A parent must sign a permission form and all equipment will be inspected. You will be the only person allowed to use your equipment. You will not be allowed to loan your equipment to anyone else. You must provide your own ammunition!

The 2023 - 2024 4-H Club Spirit Shirt are now available to order! The T-Shirts will be available in short sleeve sizes Youth Small—Adult 3X. The cost for each shirt will be $12.00. The shirt will a short sleeve light green shirt with the power of youth logo and the "Evangeline Parish" printed beneath the logo.
Please note Superintendent Darwan Lazard has approved that 4-H T-shirts may be worn to school each month on the day your school 4-H Club Meeting is held.

Do you enjoy building things with Legos and solving problems through creative ways? Then this is the club for you you! Our new club is open to all 7th and 8th grade 4-H member and will be held on Mondays from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at our office. Please see schedule below. We will have a total of 5 meetings where you will be introduced to the world of robotics as you gradually learn the basics of building and programming autonomous robots using sensors. You will work as a team to build and effective competition robot. Teams will systematically test and refine programs, using the design process to develop a solution to complete missions, all the while developing skills related to collaboration and teamwork, and life skills for your future careers. This club will consist of 15 members which be chosen through a lottery, that will be aired live on our Facebook page. If you are interested you must sign up and return sign up form to the office by October 31, 2023. After being selected you will be responsible for a $10 registration fee to be paid by November 15, 2023. If not paid by the deadline we will move on to the next person on the list and you will forfeit your spot. All entrees will be dated and timed stamp when received.

This club was offered to all schools but with timing issues not all schools will be able to hold meeting, which is why we are offering a club at the office.
Basile, Reimagine Academy, and Sacred Heart will have their own club during school hours. However, each of these clubs will also consist of 15 members. Members at the school clubs will be chosen on a first come first serve basis and the $10.00 registration fee will be collected at time of sign up. So that means you still have to fill out a Robotics Club registration form.
