If you get elected….what do you do?Come to 4-H Officer Training!
If you are a 4-H club officer, we will hold the Lincoln Parish 4-H Officer training on Oct. 17 at Ruston Elementary School. The training will begin at 5:30 pm and will be done by 7:00 pm. This training is required for all Lincoln Parish 4-H Club Officers.

All animals must be on a leash or in a cage. You may only enter two of the following categories:

  • Dogs: biggest, smallest, best dressed, cutest, and ugliest
  • Cats:best long haired, best short haired
  • Most Unusual or Any Other Pet
  • Best Snake

“Catch-Phrase for 4-H Summer Camp and LOST Camp” Contest

What is a good theme for 4-H Summer Camp and /or LOST Camp?Send us your most creative ideas for a slogan in 7 words or less.Illustrations must accompany the phrase and will be part of the contest.The winning slogan will be one that is brief and “catchy”, capturing the spirit of 4-H

Camp Grant Walker.The slogan will be used on all publicity for camp and on the camp tee shirt. The winner will receive a monetary award. Deadline is October 18th. Submissions must also include the following:Your full name and age, parish/4-H Club, complete mailing address,
telephone number.You may submit multiple entries.

4-H Talent Contest

The Lincoln Parish 4-H Talent Contest will be held October 8, 2019 at Louisiana Tech Howard Auditorium in Ruston. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and show starts at 6:00 p.m.Trophies awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each class.First place winners in each class will qualify for the Louisiana State Fair Talent Contest on October 26, 2019.Time limit for each act is 6 minutes. Maximum group size is 8. One award will be given for the group.

Junior Division (ages 9-13) Class I (Dance); Class 2 (Vocal); Class 3 (Instrumental); Class 4 (Other)
Senior Division (ages 14-19) Class 5 (Dance); Class 6 (Vocal); Class 7 (Instrumental); Class 8 (Other)

Your school 4-H Club Leader has the registration form to be used and Registration is due by October 1, 2019.Bring your own music on a CD and your own instruments.We will have a piano available for our use.

Beef Up Your Cash
Make a poster telling a story of beef and/or beef products. The finished poster should be appropriate for use on a billboard. The rules are as follows:

  • Poster must be on 22”X28” white poster board only or they will be disqualified.
  • Place your name, address, age, grade, school, and parish on the upper right corner of the back of the poster.
  • Poster should generate positive images of beef and beef products.
  • Do not use copyrighted materials (i.e., cartoon character advertisements, logos, etc.) Any copyrighted material used will be disqualified. Computer generated clip-art may be used on the poster if it is not copyrighted material.

Posters are due to in the Lincoln Parish 4-H Office no later than November 15th.Cash prizes will be awarded.

State Fair of Louisiana Bb Gun Contest Saturday, November 9, 2019

Poultry Barn~La. State Fairgrounds~Shreveport, LA
Must pre-register (no registration on day of contest)
Received By: Oct. 17(to receive 2 gate passes)
Final deadline: Nov. 1 (last day to register – no gate passes)
Cost: $5.00 per contestant(checks payable to Louisiana 4-H Foundation)
Divisions:(Open To All Youth Ages 9-19)
Divisions will be determined by number of participants in each age group. Youth will compete against others in same age division.TIMES TO SHOOT will be sent to participants after final deadline once divisions are determined.Each age division will have a certain time to check in, starting with youngest, reducing wait time as much as possible.

Order of Fire: 4 “grouping” shots at each of 4 positions (Prone, Sitting, Kneeling, Standing)
Equipment: Everything will be provided (guns, ammo, targets, eye protection).Do Not bring your own BB gun to the state fairgrounds – you must use guns provided)
Awards:
60% of entry fees will be given back as award premiums for top 5 in each age division.

4-H Diving into Fashion Camp

Fashion Camp is for 10-13 year olds and an adult must attend the camp with them. The camp will take place at Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, Louisiana January 24-26, 2020. There will be numerous fashion and clothing construction activities. Cost of camp is $110 for youth and $80 for the adult chaperone.Application and fees are due in the 4-H office by Nov. 11th.Please call our office at 318/251-5134 if interested. Space for the camp is very limited – first come, first served.

Lincoln Parish 4-H Cooking Contest and Card Games for Med Camps

The date of the contest is set for Nov. 23, 2019 and will be held at Tractor Supply of Ruston. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the contest will begin at 10:00 a.m. An entry fee of ONE NEW CARD GAME is requested for entry into the contest.These will be given to Med Camps as a part of our parish wide Kids with Special Needs service learning project.

General Rules:

  • Provide 7 typed copies of the recipe using the recipe form provided by your school 4-H club leader.
  • Contestants may only enter one division in each category.
  • The dish must be prepared the night before and chilled in refrigerator.
  • Dish must be transported to the contest on ice in an ice chest.Dishes not chilled and transported on ice or in an ice chest will be disqualified.

Categories and Divisions are listed below:

Beef

Ground Beef Appetizer
Must contain a minimum of 1 lb. of ground beef
A small dish of food consumed before a meal to stimulate one’s appetite. Examples include marinated meatballs, dips made with ground beef, etc.

Ground Beef Main Dish
Must contain a minimum of 1 lb. of ground beef
Primary dish in a meal, can also be considered the entrée. Examples include casseroles, lasagna, taco salad etc.

Wild Game (Venison, Squirrel, Duck, Goose)
Must contain a minimum of 1 lb. of wild game meat.

Egg
Egg Appetizer/Salad
Must contain a minimum of 4 eggs in any combination (whole, whites or yolks)

Egg Dessert
Must contain a minimum of 4 eggs in any combination (whole, whites or yolks)

Poultry
Poultry Chicken
Must contain a minimum of 1 lb. deboned chicken or 2 lbs. bone in chicken
Canned chicken is acceptable

Seafood
Seafood Crawfish
Must contain a minimum of 1 pound of crawfish (fresh or frozen)

Entries may contain a small amount of another seafood, but not more than ½ of the amount of the primary seafood.

Seafood Shrimp
Must contain a minimum of 1 pound of shrimp (fresh, frozen, or canned)

  • Entries may contain a small amount of another seafood, but not more than ½ of the amount of the primary seafood.
