National 4-H Week is October 7-13! Be sure to celebrate during this week at your school and in your community!

Lincoln Parish 4-H Scholarship Workshop

If you are in high school and want to find out how your involvement in 4-H can result in some awesome scholarships then you need to come to the 4-H Scholarship Workshop on September 23, 2019 to learn how to complete a 4-H Scholarship.

Name the 4-H Mascot

Our 4-H snake is “hissing” for a name. Turn your ideas in to your 4-H leader at school, email it to the 4-H Office at asimmons@agcenter.lsu.edu, or send it in a message to us on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/lincoln4h. Along with your 4-H snake mascot name idea, entry must include your name and your school name. You may enter as many 4-H snake mascot name ideas as you would like. Deadline to turn in your 4-H snake mascot name idea/ideas is September 25, 2019.

You’re Invited as a Special Guest! Lincoln Parish 4-H Leadership Club is Hosting a “4-H Leadership Kick-Off Party”

Who: Any 7th through 12th Grader

When: September 16, 2019 Beginning at 6 pm

Where: Lincoln Parish Park, Pavilion L-6, 211 Parish Park Road (off Hwy. 33)

Come party with us, eat, and find out about all the fun things we do in the 4-H leadership club! Leadership opportunities! Fun! Service projects! Fun! Trips! Fun! Friends! Fun! Awards/Scholarships! Fun! Door prizes!

4-H Pet Show

Date: 10/10/2019
Where: Railroad Park in Downtown Ruston
Registration: 5:30 p.m.Show:6:00 p.m.

All animals must be on a leash or in a cage.

You may enter only two of the following categories:

  • Dogs: biggest, smallest, best dressed, cutest, and ugliest
  • Cats: best long haired, best short haired
  • Most Unusual or Any Other Pet
  • Best Snake

4-H Talent Contest

The Lincoln Parish 4-H Talent Contest will be held October 8, 2019 in Ruston at The Howard Auditorium on the La Tech Campus.Registration begins at 5:30 p.m. and show starts at 6:00 p.m.Trophies awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each class.First place winners in each class will qualify for the Louisiana State Fair Talent Contest on October 26, 2019.Time limit for each act is 6 minutes. Maximum group size is 8. One award will be given for the group.

Junior Division (ages 9-13) Class I (Dance); Class 2 (Vocal); Class 3 (Instrumental); Class 4 (Other)

Senior Division (ages 14-19) Class 5 (Dance); Class 6 (Vocal); Class 7 (Instrumental); Class 8 (Other)

Registration is due by October 1, 2019.

Bring your own music and your own instruments. The Howard Auditorium does have a piano available.

If you get elected…..what do you do? Come to 4-H Officer Training!

If you are a 4-H club officer, you must attend the Lincoln Parish 4-H Officer training on Oct. 17th at Ruston Elementary School. The training will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will be done at 7:00 p.m.This training is required for all Lincoln Parish 4-H Club Officers.

“Catch-Phrase for 4-H Summer Camp and LOST Camp” Contest

What is a good theme for 4-H Summer Camp and/or LOST Camp?Send us your most creative ideas for a slogan in 7 words or less.Illustrations must accompany the phrase and will be part of the contest. The winning slogan will be one that is brief and “catchy”, capturing the spirit of 4-H Camp Grant Walker.The slogan will be used on all publicity for camp and on the camp tee shirt. The winner will receive a monetary award. Deadline is October 18th.

Submissions must also include the following:

Your full name and age Parish/4-H Club
Complete mailing address
Telephone number

You may submit multiple entries.

Beef Up Your Cash

Make a poster telling a story of beef and/or beef products. The finished poster should be appropriate for use on a billboard.The rules are as follows:

  • Poster must be on 22” X 28” white poster board only or they will be disqualified.
  • Place your name, address, age, grade, school, and parish on the upper right corner of the back of the poster.
  • Poster should generate positive images of beef and beef products.
  • Do not use copyrighted materials (i.e., cartoon character advertisements, logos, etc.) Any copyrighted material used will be disqualified. Computer generated clip-art may be used on the poster if it is not copyrighted material.Posters are due to in the Lincoln Parish 4-H Office no later than November 15th.Cash prizes will be awarded.

State Fair of Louisiana

The State Fair of Louisiana will be from October 24th through November 10th.Visit their website for more information about all that the fair has to offer at https://www.statefairoflouisiana.com .Also, school groups (3rd-6th) grades have an awesome educational field trip opportunity available to them to visit the State Fair of Louisiana LSU AgCenter’s AgMagic.See the information below about getting registered.
