4-H “Coins for Cancer”
As 4-H Members – “We Pledge Our Hands To Larger Service”.Let’s put our 4-H service hands to work.We will be collecting “Coins for Cancer”. Parish 4-H Clubs will be collecting any and all coins/pocket change until February 1st. We will be donating the total money raised from our coin collection to St. Jude’s. Get your whole school and/or community involved. So many lives are affected by this devastating disease.

Black History Month Poster Contest
In observance of Black History Month, you will design an informative poster about black history.Black History Posters are due on January 25.

Rules for the Black History Month Posters – be sure to follow the rules below or your poster will be disqualified:

  • Must be on 22” X 28” white poster board only.
  • Do not attach anything to the poster that is more than ½“thick.
  • Do not use the commercial brand product names
  • Do not use jingles, slogans, signs or pictures that are trademark or copyright protected on the poster.

Print name, address, grade, school and parish on back of poster in the upper right hand corner.

Honey Bee Essay Contest
2019 Essay Topic Honey Varietals, State to State. State and National contest winners could receive a cash award up to $750. Due to the 4-H Office Jan. 25, 2019.

Rules for contest:

  • Write on the designated subject only.Call the 4-H Office for more details about the topic requirements.
  • All factual statements must be referenced with bibliographical-style end notes.
  • A brief biographical sketch of the essayist, including date of birth, gender, complete mailing address, and telephone number, must accompany the essay.
  • Length – the essay itself: 750 to 1000 words. The word count does not include the endnotes, the bibliography or references, or the essayist's biographical sketch – which should be on a separate page.
  • Prepare your essay double-spaced, 12-pt. Times or similar type style, following standard manuscript format.
  • An essay cover sheet is required and can be found on the Lincoln Parish 4-H website or from your school leader.
  • Essays must be submitted electronically. Email essays to:asimmons@agcenter.lsu.edu
  • Submit as a Microsoft Word compatible document.
  • Submit to a Parish Extension Agent for submission to the state 4-H office.

Valentine’s Dance
Valentine Dance will be held on Feb. 8 at I.A. Lewis School Gym from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The dance is for 4th-6th grade Lincoln Parish 4-H members.School dress code or you will not be admitted to the dance. Cost is $10 and picture packages will be available. Concessions will be sold. Dance will be chaperoned by 4-H agents, parish school staff members, volunteers and parents.

This year we will have a fun event for parents at the I. A. Lewis School multi-purpose room during the dance!More details about this in next month’s newsletter and on our Facebook page soon!

State 4-H Jr. Award of Excellence
Must be age 14 before January 1 or younger and 4-H member for 2 years. Must score 250 points on application. Due to the 4-H Office on Jan. 11th. Not eligible to apply if you have won this award previously.

State 4-H Key Club Award
Must be 15 years before January 1 or older and 4-H member for 3 years. Must be in 4-H Jr. Leaders. Must score 360 points on
application. Due to the 4-H Office on Jan. 11th. Not eligible to apply if you have won this award previously.

Louisiana Electric Cooperative Youth Tour
Louisiana Electric Cooperative Youth Tour will be in Washington D.C. held in June. Applications for the tour will be due to the Lincoln Parish 4-H Office on February 4, 2019. Applicants must be a 4-H Club member and 16 years old or older to attend. Please call the 4-H Office at 318-251-5134 to request an application.

Shooting Sports Kick Off Meeting
Shooting Sports kick-off meeting for Shotgun will be held at the Ruston Gun Club on Wafer Road in Ruston, LA on
February 2, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. Anyone interested in shotgun shooting sports can attend. Instructors will discuss the program and a hotdog lunch will be served. Contact Brad Martin at 318-251-1095 to register.

Dairy Poster Contest
You will need to design a poster to convince people to eat and drink dairy products. Posters are due on February 26th.
