4-H How Do I Join

• Obtain an enrollment card from your school 4-H leader, through the Grant Parish Office, or online at
• Turn completed enrollment card and 4-H dues into your school leader
• Look over the 4-H Calendar with your parents and check which activities you want to participate in during the year
• Encourage all of your friends to join, we want to increase membership, because the more the merrier!

4-H represents a group of young people from all over the parish who have fun while "learning by doing". 4-H Club offers a world of opportunities for young people to learn new things, go new places, and meet new people.

School Club Officers - Should be elected/selected by your October club meeting. Your club leader has information that will help your job as an officer run smoothly.

4-H Junior Leaders Club

What is a Junior Leader?

The 4-H junior leader experience is designed to provide members with the opportunity to learn about the qualities and competencies needed to be a leader. Junior leaders provide assistance with 4-H events and assume more challenging leadership roles. Junior leaders may assist with specific community projects or with more general 4-H activities and events. A 4-H member may enroll if they are at least 13 years or older as of January 1 of the current school year. Our Junior Leader Program is a great place to experience new things, compete in fun contest, meet new friends, travel, and learn the leadership skills necessary in the world! Mask required at meeting.

If you are interested in joining:

• Pick up and enrollment form from your school leader or pick one up from our office
• We will meet once a month at the 4-H Office in Colfax on the 2nd Monday of each month at 6:00pm
• Our 1st meeting will be September 13, 2021
• Dues are $20, this includes $10 for a t-shirt
• The deadline to sign up and turn in dues will be October 11

Fundraiser

Grant Parish 4-H will be selling boxes of World's Finest Chocolate as a fundraiser for the 2021-2022 school year. If you are interested in selling World's Finest Chocolate, it will help fund this year's many projects. Please let us know how many boxes you would be willing to sell. Contact the 4-H Office at 627-3675 or email lcraig@agcenter.lsu.edu no later than October 15. There will be cash awards for the top three sellers. If we do not receive enough interest, we will not be ordering the chocolate.

Let's Celebrate 100 years of Camp Grant Walker

Themed Contest: Send us your most creative idea for a theme in 5 words or less. Illustrations of your theme must accompany the phrase. The contest is open to all Louisiana 4-H youth. The winning theme will be selected based on its ability to be “catchy” and captures the spirit of camping at Camp Grant Walker for 100 years. The theme will be used in all publicity for camp, including the 2022 camp t-shirt. The winner will be awarded a monetary award! Deadline is Oct 29, 2021!! Mail entries to Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center, 3000 Hwy 8, Pollock, LA 71467.Please include full name and age of person submitting the slogan, and Parish/4-H Club, complete mailing address, and telephone number.

Look for the announcement coming about the 2022 Summer Program!

LOST CAMP will not be held in the summer of 2022.There is a possibility of it being scheduled for the Fall.

Livestock

Mark the Date!! Livestock meeting to discuss exhibiting at the livestock show will be October 5, 2021, at 6:00pm at the 4-H Office in Colfax. There will be no Grant Parish Show, it will be combined into one show in February. Mask required at meeting.

4-H Spring Livestock Show!

If you have livestock and are interested in showing in the 4-H livestock shows, please contact the 4-H office at 318-627-3675. The 2022 Central District Livestock Show will be February 2-5. The 2021 validation fee $6.00 per validation for exhibitors showing market and commercial sheep, goats. dairy, or beef. Kits for tags will be taken at the meeting. Return kits to the 4-H Office by November 1st. NO grace period. Exhibitors showing market or commercial hogs may pick up their validation kits after November 8th. Possession/Validation date is December 4, 2021. Return kits to the 4-H Office by December 6th, NO later. If you have any questions, contact Rodney Johnson, Livestock Agent, at 318-767-3968.

National 4-H Week

Celebrate National 4-H Week October 3-October 9!! 4-H Clubs across America will be celebrating National 4-H week. This year's theme is "Opportunity 4 All". Join the festivities by planning special events within your club/school. Ideas include: cookies for teachers, a 4-H display in the hall or bulletin board, wearing green/white tee shirts if your principal allows, sponsoring a poster contest, or passing out 4-leaf clovers. We know you can think of many more ideas.

Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Trick-or-Treat!!! You are invited to participate in the Pumpkin Decorating Contest on October 28, 2021. Bring your pumpkin fully decorated to the 4-H Office in Colfax from 4:00 pm-5:00 pm to be judged. Judging will begin promptly at 5:00 pm. Pumpkins may be any size, foam or real and can be decorated in any age-appropriate theme. Look online for some great ideas!

There will be 2 divisions:

• 4^th-6^th grade divided into 3 categories: Cutest Pumpkin, Most Creative Pumpkin, and Best Carved.
• 7^th-12^th grade pumpkins will not be separated into categories

You may take your pumpkin home with you once the judging is complete and prizes are awarded.

Seed of the Month

JOIN the SEED of the MONTH club!!! Members will receive a packet of seeds (or plant material) with instructions on planting, watering, growing, and harvesting. Recipes, service opportunities, and a wide variety of gardening education will be available for youth.

Shooting Sports

Mark the Date! Parent/Student sign up will be October 12, 2021, at 6:00pm at Camp Grant Walker in the Multipurpose Building. There will be a $25 sign up fee plus a $10 t-shirt fee.

If you like the outdoors and want to learn about firearm safety and improve your marksmanship while competing against other 4-H'ers, you need to join the 4-H Shooting Sports Team. Here you will participate in workshops and contests related to archery, rifle, and shotgun. Practice dates will be announced at a later date. Like our Grant Parish Shooting Sports page on Facebook for information. You must be signed up for 4-H in order to join the Shooting Sports Team. Congratulations to Grant Shooting Sports Team for TOP placement in all categories this past year!!! Job Well Done!

Grant Parish Shooting Sports Team members helped during the Louisiana National Rifle Association's yearly banquet that was held at the Randolph Riverfront Center in Alexandria. Members of the Grant Rifle Team were recognized by the National Rifle Association for their accomplishments in the Regional and State competitions in 2021.
