‘Creole’ (L134)

Creole was developed by Dr. Teme Hernandez in 1970 as part of the tomato breeding program. The purpose of this program was to develop heat tolerant varieties for Louisiana’s local and commercial market. This variety is not to be confused with the marketing term ‘creole’ used to refer to tomatoes grown in the alluvial soils of Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes. Dr. Hernandez describes Creole as having resistance to fusarium, Alternaria stem canker, and cracking. 70-75 days to maturity. Seeds for Creole was acquired from Victory Seed and grown in 2024 for seed increase at the Northeast Research Station. Creole is a nice producer with medium sized tomatoes great for slicing, salads, salsa and canning. Plants produced all summer, were then pruned in late summer, allowing for a fall crop. Creole produced nicely in the fall, yielding small to medium sized tomatoes great for snacking or salads. Creole was easy to grow, had no disease issues, and was highly heat tolerant. This is a great reliable variety for Louisiana gardens.
