Professor J.C. Taylor joined the Southern Pea Breeding Program in 1947. In 1953, Hawthorne and Taylor released ‘Louisiana Purchase’ (Calhoun Crowder X Blackeye), a vining cream pea type. Louisiana Purchase was acquired from GRIN (PI 663011) and grown out in 2021 & 2022.In both years, Louisiana Purchase was the most productive among all other LSU developed southern pea varieties. This variety is perfect for canning, freezing, or fresh market. 63-70 days to maturity.
