The intern will be domiciled at the Idlewild Research Station in Clinton, Louisiana and will be working with the horticulture extension agent and the research station associates. There will be opportunities to see both the extension and research sides of the LSU AgCenter.
The intern must be prepared to work outside pruning, fertilizing, and working on weed control in the blueberry orchard to prepare for extension blueberry trainings. Other duties include office work, creating evaluations, and assisting with preparations for a fall Master Gardener class. The Idlewild Research Station is currently working on multiple wildlife related research projects and the intern must be prepared for light farm work, including working with animals.
A successful intern candidate must be willing to work outside in various weather conditions, but also be able to work inside on the computer when needed. A working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is necessary. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Timeliness and dependability will be expected. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Jessie Hoover serves as the extension horticulture agent for East Feliciana, West Feliciana, and St. Helena Parishes and will be the primary mentor for this internship.Other mentors include Ariel Bourgoyne and Will Forbes, Research Associates at the Idlewild Research Station.
