Description of Committed Responsibilities of the Undergraduate Student Intern:

The intern will be responsible for assisting with laboratory, greenhouse, and field projects aimed at developing integrated pest management strategies for nematodes on major crops produced in Louisiana (soybean, cotton, sweet potato, and sugarcane). The intern will also be responsible for updated the LSU AgCenter Nematode Advisory Service website. This experience is designed to give the intern an in-depth exposure to all aspects of nematology research in Louisiana.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum qualifications: Rising sophomores and juniors from LSU and partner institutions majoring in Horticulture or Agriculture and Extension Education and Evaluation (AEEE) with at least a 2.5 GPA are most competitive.
  • Preferred qualifications: Desire to serve others; excellent communication skills, high attention to detail and experience with Word, Excel, and Power Point

Success Measure or End of Project Deliverables:

  • Successful establishment of field, greenhouse, and laboratory experiments
  • Early season plant growth and nematode data analyzed on field and greenhouse projects
  • Updated Nematode Advisory Service webpage (LSU AgCenter website)

Tristan T. Watson, Ph.D. is the state nematologist for Louisiana through the Department of Plant Pathology and Crop Physiology, LSU AgCenter.
