Southern University and A&M College Swine and Poultry Unit Internship

Internship Description:

The student will learn daily care of multiple species: poultry, rabbits, and swine on campus, complete a research project on garden crop production in pig paddocks and pig preferences, then also help with outreach for multiple programs Ag Science completes over the summer.

List of Qualifications:

  • Animal Science or Pre-vet student
  • willing to work with animals,
  • Ability to lift more than 25 pounds.

    Primary Tasks, Duties, and/or Responsibilities:

    • daily care of poultry, rabbit, swine
    • tend garden crops in pig paddocks
    • move pigs in paddocks
    • take pictures of crops before and after pigs to help analyze preferences


    Success Measure or End of Project Deliverables:

    This pilot study will be used in an extension article that the student will help write an abstract for a conference. The intern will be Involved in data collection, help with analyzing data, and put together a report of the study.
