On April 29, 2023, after what seemed to be a year in the making, a health and resource fair was held. The LSU AgCenter- West Feliciana Parish and West Feliciana Hospital partnered to host the event in Solitude, Louisiana. The fair, “Together in Solitude” was created by the Solitude Healthy Communities Coalition led by Shieda Perkins and Sara Wilson-Wright, along with Representative Roy “Daryl” Adams, District 62, and the LSU AgCenter- West Feliciana Parish.
The goal was to provide health screenings and promote other resources for the residents of Solitude and West Feliciana Parish. The idea for such an event stemmed from a Solitude Health Communities Forum.
“Together in Solitude” was a huge success. More than 150 residents attended the event, visiting over 30 vendors offering healthy cooking discussions with samples, diabetes management information, STEM demonstrations, vision screening, safety education, physical activity demonstrations and Medicare and Medicaid enrollment education. The Council on Aging assisted by providing shuttle service. West Feliciana Hospital provided health screenings and wellness labs.
Residents enjoyed food, fun, and activities while learning about resources provided by state and local agencies and community partners.
