Ascension Master Gardener Program

River Parishes Master Gardener Seminar

Project Outputs

The River Parishes Master Gardener Seminar was held to encourage idea sharing amongst Master Gardener Associations. It was the hope of the planning committee that those in attendance would take information from the seminar back to their local associations to improve educational programing. Another goal of the seminar was to provide an entertaining and educational experience to gardening enthusiasts. The speakers on the program were retired Mississippi State extension horticulturist and gardening expert Felder Rushing, along with Gonzales’ own local rose expert Peggy Martin. Over 100 Master Gardeners and guests came together for the event.

Project Outcomes

Participants gained gardening knowledge and networked with Master Gardeners from neighboring associations throughout the program. Each Master Gardener Association was given the opportunity to present a short report and overview of programs. Seven reports were given from the following associations: Westside, River Region, Pointe Coupee, Livingston, Feliciana, East Baton Rouge, and Ascension. Based on end-of-event evaluations 96% indicated that they talked to someone new during the seminar. Additionally, 96% of participants indicated they enjoyed learning about the different Master Gardener Associations.

Project Impacts

Ascension Master Gardeners hope to continue the River Parishes Master Gardener Seminar making it a biannual event. Of 100 participants, 98% indicated they would support future events to encourage the exchange of ideas. Feedback received after the seminar from in-person conversations and paper evaluations was very positive.
