Hi, my name is Tyler Demary. I am from Jennings, Louisiana, and I was selected as the 2023 Charles and Rose Broussard Internship Recipient. I plan on attending Louisiana State University in the Fall of 2023, where I will major in crop science in hopes of becoming an agronomist.
I’ve grown up around agriculture all of my life. From baling hay to running crawfish boats, and even harvesting rice in a combine, you name it, I have probably done it. In my high school career, I was an active member of the FFA and 4-H clubs. I was our FFA Chapter’s Vice-President as well as our High School 4-H President. Many of my accomplishments come from FFA. From being the only person ever from the state of Louisiana to place in the Top Ten in two National CDE areas to winning multiple State CDEs each of my three years of high school (I say only three because of COVID), I have seen a thing or two in my high school career.
As stated earlier, I plan on becoming an agronomist one day. This dream was only recently realized, and I never would have thought of it without my agriscience teacher. While studying for the National Agronomy Contest one day, it dawned on me that I could do this for a living, and maybe for the rest of my life. Learning about soil fertility and weed resistance was something that entertained me, and I felt a calling from this area. Now, it has latched on to me like a fish on a hook, and I can’t get enough of it. I’m currently taking an online course to become a Certified Crop Advisor, which is a big step toward my goal of becoming a professional agronomist. I hope that this internship and any others that I complete will also assist me in fulfilling my dream.
Once again, thank you to the Charles and Rose Broussard Family for allowing me to learn something that I may use for the rest of my days.
