Dr. Gillian Eggleston, Dr. Anurag Mandalika, and Stephania Imbachi-Ordonez attended the ISSCT Congress in Hyderabad, India on February 9 - 23, 2023. Dr. Eggleston also participated in the pre-Congress which included visits to the DCM Shriram Sugar Complex at Hariawan and the Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research (IISR), located in Lucknow. Stephania Imbachi-Ordonez also participated in the post-Congress visiting the Saraswati Sugar Mills Complex and Works of Isgec Heavy Engineering Ltd at Yamunanagar in Haryana.
During the congress in Hyderabad, Dr. Eggleston gave a plenary speech on “The case for natural, nutritious, and functional sweeteners from sugarcane that meet new consumer demands.” Stephania Imbachi-Ordonez gave two presentations in the Factory section of ISSCT on “How a clarification aid can affect the polarimetric analysis of sugarcane juice” and “Impact of scale composition on evaporator cleaning efficiency.” Dr. Eggleston and Dr. Mandalika gave a presentation in the Co-Products section of ISSCT on “How sugarcane vinegars compare to other commercial vinegars: composition and health benefits.”
Stephania Imbachi-Ordonez also gave a poster in the Factory posters section of ISSCT on “Rapid analysis of the moisture content of press cane” and Dr. Giovanna Aita and Dr. Young Hwan Moon gave a poster in the Co-Products posters section on EPS forming microbes in crusher juice and a poster in the Factory posters section on Black Flies growing in bagasse and molasses.
