Setting the Table for Healthy Eating

Setting_the_Table_PicturejpgLayne Langley, LSU Area Nutrition Agent in West Feliciana & Livingston Parishes recently conducted “Setting the Table for Healthy Eating” series. The two-part series was delivered virtually using Microsoft Teams. The objective of the series was to provide tips on how to shop, prepare, and order foods while eating out to build a healthy diet.

One key message covered during the first sessions was “healthy cooking and eating start with smart food shopping”. Participants learned how to read and use the nutrition facts label to make informed food choices that support a healthy diet. They were urged to take an active role in making healthier choices at home and while eating out.

Two key messages covered during the second session were “small changes add up and know your options when eating out”. Participants were encouraged to focus on small manageable shifts to healthy food and beverage choices for healthy, lifelong changes. Langley also advised the participants to make informed choices to support their health goals. She also reminded them that good nutrition can lead to better health for them and their family.
