Centered between Louisiana's two largest metropolitan areas, the Hammond Research Station serves as the primary destination for nursery crop production and landscape horticulture research and extension in Louisiana. Century-old live oak trees frame acres of lush landscaping approximately six miles from the city of Hammond. The Hammond Research Station was initially established in 1922 as a Fruit and Truck Crops research station; however, as time passed the station's mission was refocused to best serve the Green Industry of Louisiana. Today, the Hammond Research Station has a two-fold mission of 1) evaluating, promoting, and developing new specialty crops for the nursery, landscape and garden center industries of Louisiana, and 2) enhancing nursery crop production and landscape management efficiency and sustainability through research, extension, and educational outreach.

Welcome to the 2020 Virtual Horticulture Field Day. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent health and safety concerns, the LSU AgCenter has optioned to present our stakeholders with a virtual field day in lieu of our traditional in-person field day. Our faculty and staff at the Hammond Research Station have worked hard to bring you updated trial results, as well as some major research updates coming from the station. We are also excited to discuss some of our upcoming endeavors with you, especially the creation of the Hammond Trials website. Currently in development, the Hammond Trials website will house real-time data collected from all of our trial gardens, bringing information to your fingertips from the convenience of your home or office. Look for the Hammond Trials website to be discussed further in the coming weeks. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our field day sponsors, trial partners, patrons, donors and volunteers who selflessly support our mission, gardens, and research. We would like to give a special thank you to our 2020 virtual field day sponsors, The Louisiana Nursery & Landscape Association and the Southeast Louisiana Nursery Association. We couldn't do it without you!

Landscape architects licensed in Louisiana can receive 1.0 hour CEU (continuing education unit) credit by watching the virtual field day videos AND taking one letter-size page of notes that must be scanned and emailed to Dr. Jeb Fields at: jfields@agcenter.lsu.edu . Upon receipt and acceptance of your notes, Dr. Fields will email you the signed CEU credit form.

Please know that we are here to serve you. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact the Hammond Research Station or any of the LSU AgCenter Extension offices around the state. With that we invite you to sit back, relax and watch our virtual field day!
