The deadline to submit record books to the 4-H office for competition is April 15th. Remember, record books consist of your completed activity guide and/or project book along with your completed portfolio! The electronic 4-H portfolio can be found Here. Remember, portfolios can be added to from year to year and can consist of up to 3 years of work! Remember to add pictures with captions of you completing projects and activities in your project area for a more complete portfolio! Ribbons and certificates do not need to be included. On Thursday, March 5th, 6pm there will be a Record Book Workshop at the Extension Office. This workshop is open to all Ascension 4-Hers who would like tips and ideas to help make their record book more competitive. Please RSVP if you plan to attend. Attendees should bring their mostly completed project book, portfolio book, and any materials that you wish to include in your record book.
Seniors, there are lots of scholarships out there for you through 4-H! Some are awarded locally, others through the state 4-H office and other entities! Be sure you are in contact with the 4-H Office, so you are not missing out on these opportunities! We have money that we want to give away!!!
The South East Regional Ag Career Day will be held at the Sugarcane Research Station in St. Gabriel on April 9th. 8th-12th grade 4-H’ers are invited to attend. This is a great opportunity for networking, meeting other 4-H members, and opening the door to new opportunities even if you may not be planning to pursue a career in Ag. Deadline to sign up is March 16th. Contact the Office for an application. Lunch and transportation will be provided. Limited Space is Available.

Any 4-Her in 8th-12th Grades, along with their parents, are invited to attend a 4-H University Informational meeting on March 25th, 6:00pm at the 4-H Office! 4-H University is a summer camp hosted on the LSU campus where students get to experience college life and compete for the chance to win free trips! 4-Hers from across Louisiana come to 4-H U to compete in their choice of over 40 competitions or attend clover college. To find out what contests are offered, for general information, or to sign up for 4-H University, please attend the meeting on March 25th! This year’s 4-H University will be held June 23-26!
“Get Hooked on 4-H Camp” at Camp Grant Walker July 6th-10th! Ascension 4-H will hold a mandatory informational meeting March 11, 6pm at the 4-H Office! Please be sure to attend if you would like your child's name on the list to attend summer camp and if you would like information on this grand adventure! Summer Camp is open to youth in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. A $50.00 deposit will be collected at this meeting to hold your child’s summer camp spot. Depending on number of students interested, a lottery may be used to select attendees.
A-Day will be held on May 7th, 2020 at the Dutchtown High School gymnasium! It will follow this year’s Ascension 4-H theme “See the ABLE, not the Label”! Achievement Day will be a fun filled day of talent demonstrations, awards, spirit, competitions, games, service and more! Parents are encouraged to attend Achievement Day! The program will begin promptly at 9:45am and will end at 1:30pm. We hope your club has begun preparing for the song, yell, t-shirt, flag/banner, and scrapbook competitions! Check with your club leader to see how you can help!
4-Hers who have a special talent, whether singing, dancing, playing an instrument, etc. can sign up to be considered to compete in the 4-H Achievement Day Talent Competition, held on May 7th! To be considered, 4-Hers should complete the talent show form, on Facebook or ask your club leader! Forms are due to the office by April 15th! The agents will review the forms and select the acts for Achievement Day! Because of time, only a few acts will be selected. Participants may be asked to perform their act for the agents prior to selection. Call the office for more info!
If you may be interested in participating in the Summer 4-H Horse Shows, please contact the office ASAP! Events such as roping, barrel racing, pole bending, ranch riding, western pleasure, hunter under saddle, and much more are offered at the summer shows. April 1st is the possession deadline. A copy of the horse’s registration papers, or a grade horse certificate must be turned in by 4/1.

Do you plant a veggie garden at your house? Do you have a school vegetable garden? Enter the annual 4-H gardening contest!! All gardens must have at least 4 different types of vegetables. You should keep records for your garden! If you have questions, please call the Extension Office. Awards will be presented at Achievement Day! Deadline to enter the contest is Friday, April 24th.
Open to 9th-12th grade 4-Hers who are interested in diving into Louisiana’s unique culinary heritage and creating the meal themselves! Attendees will make sausage and work directly with Chef Quincy Vidrine for a hands-on culinary experience! Camp will be held April 3-4 at Camp Grant Walker for the cost of $125. Transportation is not provided. Students should register directly with Camp Grant Walker by contacting (318)765-7209 or emailing aomalley@agcenter.lsu.edu. Deadline to sign up is March 16th.

If you are 14 or older, enjoy attending camps, working with younger kids, and are very energetic, you may want to consider being a camp counselor at 4-H summer camp or LOST camp. For more information on camp counselors, please contact the office or agents.
Stop by Raising Cane’s on Airline in Gonzales or Prairieville on March 17th (St. Patrick’s Day!) from 11:00am until closing to help “Raise A Little Green for 4-H.” Be sure to mention Ascension 4-H at the register for Ascension 4-H to receive 15% of the location’s profits from that night!
