December 2019 Events:

19th: Cookery Contest

West Baton Rouge Parish is primarily a rural parish with four small towns and a population of 25,490. There are some 115 farmers growing agronomic crops on 41,533 acres. West Baton Rouge also has 45 cattlemen with 900 head of mature cows, along with 850 acres in crawfish.The LSU AgCenter Agents provide research-based information on plant, fisheries, wildlife and animal enterprises to West Baton Rouge parish clientele.

4-H Beef, Rice, Seafood & Sugar Cookery Contests

On Thursday, December 19th, West Baton Rouge 4-H will hold the Parish Beef, Rice, Seafood, and Sugar Cookery Contests at the 4-H Office. Dish drop off will take place from 7:30 am – 9:00 a.m. The judging of the entries will be from 10:15 a.m. - 10:45 a.m., with the judging area closed to public during this time.

Categories for beef include: Low-Calorie Main Dish, Quick and Easy Main Dish, and One Dish Meal. Categories for rice include: Rice Main Dish, Rice Side Dish, and Rice Dessert. Categories for seafood include: Crab, Crawfish, Shrimp, Oyster, and Fish & Other. The categories for Sugar include: Baked and Non-Baked

If entering the seafood cookery, make sure your dish has at least one cup of seafood in it, and if entering a sugar dish, make sure you use at least one cup of sugar. Beef dishes must contain one pound of beef. Please refer to the Cookery Contest rules packet for specific contest guidelines. Contact the 4-H office for a copy of the Cookery Contest rules packet.

All dishes must arrive at the contest cold, sitting on ice, and in an ice chest. Also, you must bring the recipe to accompany the dish. Any entry not meetings these criteria will be disqualified.

First place winners will represent WEST BATON ROUGE 4-H at the Southwest Area Cookery Contest in Crowley, on March 24, 2020. Please direct any questions to Mr. Elliott @ 336-2416.

Canned Food Drive

All items for the canned food drive will be picked-up on December 16th. If your club needs a different day, please contact Mr. Elliott
