Come experience the brand new challenge camp. Get ready to explore your future careers and other occupations you may not know exists.
This two-day camp is packed with lots of educational, hands on activities, and tours for 7th and 8th grade 4-H members. The camp will be held in Alexandria at the state evac shelter.
Youth will select from different career field options such as: Medical, Trades, Military, Ag Education, Ag & Natural Resources, and STEM.
Second day of camp, 4-H’ers will load buses/vans and hit the road with their respective career field for a day of career exploring. Camper will need lunch money for second day activities!
Registration for Career Exploration Camp is $50. Camper will need lunch money for second day activities! The 1st Deadline for Career Camp is December 17, registration received after will be placed on alternate list if not yet full.

So you want to get hands-on and creative?? Well here is your chance! Three crafty activities are what we have found for you. One of the activities will be picture transfer, so 4-H’ers will need email the 4-H office a picture of something you like before the workshop. Another item to bring is a plain white T-Shirt for the tie-dye activity. Finally, 4-H’ers will explore the art of Papier Mache. Lizards are the topic of choice! Workshop will begin at 5:00 pm and conclude by 8:00 pm in the 4-H downstairs meeting at the courthouse. Sign up and pay $5.00 by January 13, 2020. Science, Engineering and Technology Clubs or SET is a way for 4-H’ers to explore the mathematics and physics of the world around them and apply what you have been learning in math and science class in a fun and exciting way. Members will need to supply three (3) empty 2-Liter Coke bottles for the workshop. Workshop is slated for Tuesday, November 26, 2019. We will begin at 9:00 a.m. and last tentatively till 2:00 p.m. at the Jena Fair Barn (Community Center). Act fast, this will be limited to the first 20 members in 4 -7 grades. Registration for the event is $10. Lunch will be provided. Ready to hone your outdoor skills? Current 4-H Shooting Sports members 9-13 years old can attend the 4-H Shooting Sports Camp at Camp Grant Walker on December 13-15, 2019. Campers will select and participate in one of the National Competition based disciplines. (Archery, Shotgun or .22 Rifle.) Camp includes two nights lodging, six meals, snacks, drinks, targets, and t-shirt. Shooters provide their own ammo/arrows and equipment.
Registration Fee $110. Parents may also attend, yet must be overnight chaperoned trained and pay a registration fee. Level 1 and Level 2 instructors will provide instruction and training for youth to hone their skills. Contact 4-H Office for Health Form, Code-of-Conduct, and Hold Harmless Agreement. “4-H Diving into Fashion” January 24-26, 2020
Get ready to explore the world of fashion in a fun and friendly atmosphere!
The Fashion Board chose this theme to reflect their personal excitement about fashion and the attitude that the campers will adopt as they travel through the experiences at camp. In addition to basic sewing fundamentals, a few of the educational activities for campers include: a sewing caddy, tote bag, pajama shorts, and a community service project plus more. You will return home with completed projects and ideas to host a fashion workshop of your own. The camp is set for January 24-26, 2020 at 4-H Camp Grant Walker.
Please note space is limited. Each parish has the opportunity to send two campers. Fashion Camp is open for 4-H’ers age 10-13 years old. Need to have a little knowledge of sewing. Don’t wait if you want to attend; in the past, part of the waiting list has been accepted. Camp registration if arriving Friday night is $130 or Saturday morning is $110 for campers.
This includes all lodging, meals, and tee shirt. Supply list of materials is available at the 4-H Office.
An Overnight Chaperone Volunteer must attend with the delegation from LaSalle Parish. Cost for volunteer is $80. Transportation is on your own. Contact the 4-H Office for Application, Health Form, and Code of Conduct. Deadline is November 18, 2019.
Record keeping is a life skill that will benefit you for years to come.
The 4-H office has its parish contest each year; then sends top records onto the State contest. Scholarships can be won on the parish or even state levels based off your records. Great award trips are also sponsored by the State office. All you have to do is keep a record of your work in 4-H.. Typically records are due the first of April.
A Record Book consist of the Project Book or a Project Summary (in place of the book) and up to three (3) years of your 4-H portfolio. If you would like a specific project book other than the 4th and 5th grade project books, contact the 4-H office.
Jr. Achievement Awards - 6th Grade Achievement. Fifty dollar Awards for Traditional or Livestock/Pet Care.
7th & 8th Grade Achievement Awards 32 winners will be selected on the state level to receive the Louisiana Educational Trip.
Dairy Conference (must be 15 years of age before Jan. 1) Each parish can enter 2 portfolios to compete. Trip to National Dairy Conference in Madison, WI, to top 2 Portfolios
National 4-H Club Congress - 21 Awards are presented to 4-H’ers 14 years and older to Atlanta, GA to attend the keystone conference of your 4-H career.
Disney Leadership Trip - 10 Youth who have previously won the Club Congress trip are chosen for the trip to Orlando, FL based on quality of project work, leadership, and citizenship records.

Enjoyed a dish over the holidays that you would love to enter into competition? If so, enter your special recipe in the Winter Cookery Contest on January 21. Check-In 5:15 p.m. Judging at 5:30 p.m. Pre-registration is requested by 1/14/20. Contest will be held in the Extension Meeting Room (23) at the Courthouse.
·1st, 2nd, & 3rd places will be given for each division and category. Overall dishes will receive $25. Four-H’ers may enter only one dish per division. Dishes cannot be split between divisions.
Contestants will display their dishes on table to be judged, along with recipe. Do not put your name on recipe. Remember: prepare whole recipe and bring only half of the dish to exhibit in the contest. Leave other half at home to enjoy with your family! All final garnishes for the dish should be done by contestant. Dishes will be chilled and brought to the contest cold, on ice, in ice chest.
Chicken Cookery
Rules: The dish must use at least one pound of chicken.
All chicken should be cooked through and juices run clear.
Cup Cake Challenge
Rules: Three identical cupcakes will be submitted. Go wild!
Sweet Potato Cookery
Rules: Dish must contain at least one cup fresh or canned sweet potatoes.
Theme for December is “Food”. Examples include images producing attractive photos of food such as advertising,
packaging, menus, and cookbooks. Turn in only 1 picture each month.
Write category, name, grade, and club on the back of a 4X6 photo and turn in to your 4-H leader or 4-H Agent by the club meeting at your school each month. Photos may also be attached & emailed to: scecil@agcenter.lsu.edu
The 2019 LSU Market and Commercial Animal Validation is just around the corner. All animals except breeding or registered are required to be validated through this process. A the time of validation, all animals will have hair samples pulled and a tag placed in that animals ear. Any animals not validated by the validation deadline will not show at the Parish, District or State Livestock Show. Cost of validation is $5.00 per head.

Looking for a lower costing, fun and educational opportunity to experience a 4-H livestock project? Then the Broiler Project is for you!
All 4-H members who want to show broilers at the State Livestock show need to contact the 4-H office or see agent during club meetings to pick up an order form. Cost per chick is 75 cents. Payment is due with order form! Minimum order of 25 chicks. Make checks payable: LaSalle Parish 4-H. Deadline to order chicks for the State Show is November 18, 2019.
Exhibitors are limited to show one pen of pullets and/or one pen of cockerels at state. An entry consist of three (3) broiler either three pullets or three cockerels. Tentative Delivery Date: - January 2, 2020

It’s that time of year again to submit T-Shirt design for 2019-2020. Please send your design to scecil@agcenter.lsu.edu or drop off at the 4-H Office before January 7, 2020. Be sure to include a back of shirt and a front left chest design. After all your ideals have been submitted, we will send an email to shooting sports members for everyone to vote.
