Beef Poster Contest

Due: March 16, 2018

The beef poster contest is sponsored by the Louisiana Beef Council to encourage youth to learn more about the beef industry while encouraging beef industry, product and nutrition. Division I: 4th-6th grade, Division II: 7th-9th grade Division III: 10th- 12th grade. Rules: Posters must be on 22”x28”Posters should generate positive images and promotion of beef (not live cattle production) using the indicated theme. Do not denote any negative messages towards other agricultural

commodities (chicken, pork, etc.)

Dairy Billboard Contest

Due: April 20, 2018

The Diary Billboard Contest is sponsored by the Louisiana Diary Industry Promotion Board and the Louisiana Dairy Producers Association to help 4-H members learn more about milk and dairy products. Division I: 4th-6th grade, Division II: 7th-8th grade, Division III: 9th-12th grade. Awards: 1st place– Rosette, 2nd and 3rd place—Ribbon, all others—purple, blue, or red ribbons.

Rules: (1) Poster must be on a 22x28 inch poster board (any color)(2) Do not attach anything to the poster that is more than 1/2 inch thick(3) Place your name, address, grade in school, parish, and social security number on the back in the upper right-hand corner

All posters should be turned in to the 4-H Office by the due date!

Are you an 8th-12th grade student?
Do you have the leadership skills to be a part of a successful business?

Come learn how to organize your own co-operative business and find out! Share and learn techniques and resources from professionals working in cooperative forms of business. Feel the thrill of victory or the agony of defeat based on your business team’s actions. Trips and cash awards presented to top leaders!

Registration fee is $30 and the deadline to register is March 16

Spend a fun-filled four days on campus at LSU!

Join the experience by participating in a wide variety of contests or attending Clover College! Must have be 13 or older in order to participate. If you are interested in attending, come by the office for more information regarding contests and educational program opportunities!

Registration fee is $35 and the deadline to register is June 1

Camp Grant Walker

It’s time to start thinking about camp!

Camp cost per camper is $175, with a $50 non-refundable deposit.

Must be currently in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade and/or no older than 12 years old to attend camp. If you wish to sign up for summer camp, I highly advise that a deposit be made to hold your spot.

Registration fee is $50 and the deadline to register is March 29

4-H LOST Camp

July 29 - August 1, 2018 Camp Grant Walker

Join in the fun at Louisiana Outdoor Science and Technology (LOST) Camp! LOST Camp cost per camper is $150, with a $50 non-refundable deposit. Must currently be in 7th or 8th grade (as of May 2018). Available tracks include videography, wetlands, outdoor adventures, SET, and so much more!

Registration fee is $50 and the deadline to register is July 2.

Strawberry Sale

Strawberry sales are here!!! We will be selling the flats for $21 a flat. $3 from each flat will go toward any camp/4-H U cost, through 2018! All funds must be given to the 4-H office. This is a great way to earn your camp money!

Sale packets and money are due to the office by March 23 and pick up will be April 2 @ 3:00 pm


Portfolio/Project Book

Due Date: April 3, 2018

4th and 5th grade only have to do project books.
6th—12th grade have to do project book plus the portfolio.
Do not forget to turn these in!

What’s Happening in West Carroll?

The Pet Show

March 15, 2018

The Pet Show is one of the most popular 4-H events. It will be held in Oak Grove at the Lingo Center. Registration begins at 1:30 and Contest begins at 2:00. Parents and other spectators should bring folding chairs. Members may enter one animal in each category, one dog, one cat, one any other. 4-Hers placing 1st-3rd in all categories will be awarded ribbons.

All animals should be brought on leashes or in a carrier so no altercations arise.

Demonstration Day & Ambassador Talks

March 16, 2018

Come compete in Demonstration Day and/or the Ambassador Talks! You are receiving the rules for this contest along with this newsletter. You are also receiving handouts which will assist you in writing your demonstration. Contest will be at the 4-H office.

Due: March 16, 2018

The recycled art contest was such a hit last year! Your entry must be made from used items that would otherwise be thrown away or recycled. There is no limitation on size or format; however, we do ask that it be safe, have no rough edges, and be stur- dy. Please bring your entries to the 4-H office anytime before March 16th. Winners will be announced after judging is completed!

4-H Pet Photo Contest

Due: March 29, 2018

Take a picture of your pet and enter it in the 4-H Pet Photo Contest. Members may only enter one photo. Placing will be based on composition, lines, shapes, framing, and contrast. Division I: 4th-6th grade, Division II: 7th-12th grade.

Regional Leadership Board

Shout out to Skylar McCullough and Eric Windham! On Sunday, February 25 and Monday, February 26 they attend a trip to Memphis and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with the Regional Leadership Board. During this trip, they were able to visit the Memphis Zoo, participate in a service-learning project that benefited patients and families at the hospital, as well as take a tour of St. Jude’s.
