Generous sponsorship from Potash Corporation of Geismar, Louisiana allowed Ascension parish to gain 14 new school gardens! Ascension Parish teachers and master gardeners a􀆩ended the Greauxing Gardens workshop at the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens at Burden on Friday, January 29. The teachers and master gardeners spent the day learning about vegetables, building raised beds, why school gardens are important, and ways to incorporate the gardens into the curriculum. The day was filled with lectures and demonstrations of seeding, transplants, building raised beds, irrigation set up, insect identification, and weed management. The day ended with the teachers loading up their cars with the tools and supplies needed to get started in their new gardens. All 14 schools have built their garden beds and

13 of those schools are now actively growing veggie crops! Follow student and teacher progress by watching Eatel’s small TV series titled Greauxing Gardens!
