Karen Nix is the LSU AgCenter's pesticide safety education coordinator. She directs the Pesticide Safety Education Program and conducts and speaks at workshops and conferences for commercial pesticide applicators. These sessions are designed so commercial applicators will be able to become certified applicators or to maintain their certification. As part of this program, she keeps other LSU AgCenter scientists aware of the rules and regulations, both state and federal, which affect the use of pesticides. She also works with county agents in their pesticide safety education programs for private applicators. She produces educational aids used in these programs and for keeping applicators aware of all the rules and regulations regarding pesticide application in Louisiana. She works with other LSU AgCenter scientists to develop educational material in the form of study guides and fact sheets concerning the safe and effective use of pesticides.
