Pulses are plants. Pulse are the edible seeds that grow in a pod. Pulses are high in protein. Pulses are inexpensive and pair with many other foods. Pulses are a way to increase the vegetables in the diet. Pulses come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Pulses are delicious!

High-protein, low-fat, high-fiber pulse grains are heavy hitters for human health and nutrition and these plants are real team players when it comes to boosting soil fertility, also.

Pulses include all beans, peas, and lentils, such as:

  • baked beans
  • red, green, yellow, and brown lentils
  • chickpeas (chana or garbanzo beans)
  • garden peas
  • black-eyed peas
  • runner beans
  • broad beans (fava beans)
  • kidney beans, butter beans (Lima beans), haricots, cannellini beans, flageolet beans, pinto beans and borlotti beans
